Cornish Independence - Are they serious?!
Discussion
Leading on from the Scottish poll, and from a conversation I had with a Cornish friend (who of course, lives in England), can anyone explain to me how serious a claim of some Cornish people to become an independent nation state?
My friend got rather upset when I scoffed at her claims of centuries of ethnic cleansing and economic colonialism, and said she was just jumping on the independence bandwagon. So should I be more sympathetic?

You may laugh, but apaprently, Cornish people take this issue very seriously!
Yes, same with incest. Not that I believe incest is a good idea mind (or that I condone it). I just think webbed feet could be helpful in certain situations.
Cornish independence is almost as valid as Welsh independence (and not just because both are a conquered people). Apparently a couple of hundred years ago more people spoke Cornish than spoke Welsh. It was only when the English tried to ban the speaking of Welsh that the sheep botherers rebelled (and rightly so...) and took steps to save their language and culture. So, England actually saved the Welsh way of life. Sort of.
They're very serious. Once on tour with the band, we played in Penzance and the singer of the local opening act spoke in Cornish. When pressed for a translation, he said "kill the English invaders". I assume it was directed at us & the other tourning band from London.
Lovely chap - nice bit of "tribal" tatooed on the side of his head.
