Morning all,

My missus is running the London Marathon next year to raise money for Leukaemia Care. She lost her sister to Leukaemia 11 years ago and has always wanted to do something that her sister would be proud of, and to raise money for a worthy charity.

We've asked friends and neighbours to donate unwanted items that we can sell at a car boot sale and have had a pretty good response, but it seems that actually getting people to hand money over for sponsorship is a little tricky these days (though to be fair she/we haven't given that a major push yet).

Normal sponsorship is one obvious means of raising money, but we need some more ideas and perhaps you lot have some good ideas or have done something similar?

Morning, I ran FLM this year, and to be honest the sponsorship bit is rewarding but time consuming and a little daunting.

Do register a page on Just Giving or similar, it is by far the easiest way to collect money, she should also carry a sponsor sheet around at all times, and print some small cards with the URL of her Just giving page and a few basic details.

I emailed everyone in my address book, the kind folk of PH sponsored me around £300 - strangers from the net can be surprisingly generous if the cause is close to them.

On top of which I chased friends, family, colleagues and was generally a pest until I got fairly close to the total. Lots of people sponsored my in the LAST WEEK before the run, so don't give up.

In terms of groundbreaking big ideas. It is really hard to be creative. However a quiz night is a decent one as its very cheap to put on, as are coffee mornings and such like. Local papers often run pieces about local runners etc.

Do you know anyone who might donate a prize that you could auction, week in a holiday home type of thing ?

She has a Just Giving page and the response to her publishing it on facebook has been a bit lack lustre. From what your saying persistance is key. I like the idea of having little cards with the url on, and also carrying a sponsorship form around with her. Leukaemia Care are sending her a donation bucket which we'll take to the boot sale as well.

I'm a photographer so could do a raffle for a free portrait shoot and prints perhaps. Will have a think about other prizes and getting the local paper involved. Will speak to our local pub too as they host a weekly quiz night and they're very good with community initiatives etc.

Thanks smile
