I have sold something on eBay and the guy who purchased it is being a pain, he eventually raised it as a dispute with paypal (after I'd advised him too) and I have put down everything I need to but we still haven't come to a conclusion. If I escalate it to a Paypal claim, what should I expect the outcome to be? Has anyone else gone down this route, its the first time for me so just wanted to see what happens.

Expect the unexpected.

I've had three paypal claims and each one has had absolutely no logic or reasoning behind their eventual decision.

Yup - might as well chuck a dart at a list of outcomes. Absolute shower who just pick up on certain words automatically and generate form responses/decisions. I would say that I didn't think a human hand was involved, but an artificial construct would at least have some logic behind it.

Given you're the seller, there's a 95% chance you'll get shafted, irrespective of the situation. Even if the guy sends the goods back, you won't be able to recoup your postage costs.

The buyer wins 99% of the time.

I work for an online store that uses Paypal, a buyer recently made a claim as they hadn't received their product which subsequently arrived a day later, it ended up with Paypal refunding all the money, so we sent a product out and received no money, the mind boggles.

Paypal is st, we're going to trial Google Checkout but it would appear to be very similar.

I had someone open a dispute so I escalated it and put my side to paypal

They bought a normal heater fan for a car and they needed an air con one - its not my fault they bought the wrong item but i offered a refund minus postage and they were not happy. so opened a dispute, which I escalated.

Paypal went in my favour and I kept the money and they kept the item.

A day later I got an email from them calling me a ! Shows was kind of people they were.

I had never done this before and sort of did it to see how it worked it was only a £20 item, but has restored my faith slightly in eBay and Paypal.

I had a buyer reverse his paypal payment after he recieved the item. I escalated it and paypal paid me back the full amount. This buyer did it to a bunch of other people too.

Despite this, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I'm currently in the middle of one. The thing that pees me off most is the time it take. Nearly 6 weeks so far! Resolves on 8th dec.

I've sold a Nokia E65 to some italian Coont and when it arrived the keyboard was set to QWERTZ, not QWERTY.

All it needs to sort out is to update the phones firmware using readily available software from Nokia.com, it's dead easy. I've offered full instructions on how to do this and tried to contact the guy several times to see how he's got on. No responses at all. Just a claim from the guy that the phone is defective. There nowt wrong with it!

Very frustrating, but then where's the alternative?
