There are three groups, each with five items in. How many variations are there for picking three items, one from each group?

Could you rephrase the question to include both trains speeds and what time they left their stations please?

You need to change the thread title from Sums to Products since the answer is 5x5x5, not 5+5+5.

Ok - need an injection of speed.

If the five items in each group are the numbers 4,5,6,7,8, is there a quick way of generating the results in Excel

e.g.

Result 1 Result 2 Result 3
4 4 4
4 4 5
4 5 4

etc.

Column A: number 4 repeated 25 times, number 5 repeated 25 times etc..
Column B: number 4 repeated 5 times, number 5 repeated 5 times etc..
Column C: number 4, number 5..

Are you trying to determine the amount of possible excuses Swerni will make for leaving early on the 17th?
