I need to buy a Xmas present for an 11 year old boy, only he lives 500 miles away so I'm not that up to date on his latest interests. I've been told to give him money, but I think that's a pretty boring gift to open Xmas day for an 11 year old.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

£££ isn't that boring for a kid to get; by the time the shops open they'll have planned how to spend it a hundred different ways! hehe

Why don't you say to the person that said you should just give him money that you would feel happier giving him a proper present to open and could they update you with his interests/what he might like for xmas?

I once gave an 11 year old boy and action man for Christmas, although getting the priest into the box was bloody hard

Good suggestion - Tried that, quite a big family so all of the things he either needs or would like are being taken care of already.

Surely you must have some idea what he likes? DON'T give him cash because he will remember/assocuate you for the money and not for the gift. Try and buy him something he will remmeber. How about an experience like tandem parachute or other mad event (no idea if they do it that young)? How about a subscription to a favourite mag?

Yup, and the road is long.

With many a winding turn....

depends on budget. My 11 year old is mad for a remote control helicopter - but a 3 or 4 way control one not the little toy things. heliguy has them for about £60.

Does he have a Wii or DS ? games for those are always top of his hit list.

also on his xmas list to give you a few more ideas:

Rubiks cube
New watch
Decent speakers (surround sound with sub) for his PC
Monopoly city
airfix kit , big bombers in decent size scale 1/72 or bigger.
anything remote control, but must be 'serious' not argos type cheap ones

Scalextric, I recently bought one after watching my old Christmas video tapes. Great fun, although quite expensive for the bits and pieces.

I now have a track shaped unfortunately like a penis, but it's a good race thumbup

You dont know many kids do you. He will get loads of toys...before he smells turkey he'll have forgoten half of the crap he's been given.

Give him cash, let him get something he wants/needs/adds to other money and gets something decent.

Been telling ppl to give my kids ££ for yrs, they still buy st that is bust or lost under a bunk bed before new year.

Thanks Tiggsy, you've just solved my dilemma about what to give my Sister's brood. Two nephews, aged 15 and 9 and a niece aged 7 (and a half). Last year it was something called "Ben 10" and "High Street Musical", god knows what it is this year. Fickle they are, fickle.

Cash it is.
