I bought something from eBay a few weeks ago and at the time clicked on the wrong item by mistake. I realised my error and mailed the seller (a business) telling them what id done and could they send me the item i wanted insted of the item i clicked on...No problem they said.

Thing is, the thing i clicked on was cheaper than the item i wanted so i asked for the companies pay pal account so i could send the difference. i got a email back and payed...but missed out part of the pay pal address. The payment was sent as a gift. the company mailed me back 2 days later saying that they were still waiting for payment, i said that id payed and gave the address, thats when they told me i had sent it to the wrong address. I sent another payment and have now received the goods.

The 1st pay pal payment is in limbo somewhere and i can't seem to get it back. the payment in question was sent to the companies email adress but NOT their pay pal account. They said it should just bounce back into my account but it hasn't. Ive tried launching a issue with pay pal but because it was sent as a "gift" they don't want to know..

What can i do now?

Looks like the unclaimed monies will be automatically returned to your account in 30 days.

I didn't know the time scale, thanks.

The payment is marked "completed" though. does that make a difference?

Yep - it does. It should be status "Unclaimed". Was it definitely sent to the same company address e.g.

someaddress@company.com

...rather than...

paypaladdress@company.com

It's possible they have added the incorrect address to their account in order to claim the payment.

I think its most unlikely that they have done that. so am i right in thinking that if it reads "completed" then it is in someones account?

You not only clicked on the wrong item from ebay, you also sent the money to the wrong address?

Maybe you should give up on internet shopping wink

If it reads "Completed" it means it has been claimed. If it's gone to the wrong email account, then you should be able to raise a dispute by clicking the transaction Details link in your PayPal account home page and scrolling to the bottom.

I'm not 100% sure but if you send monies to an email address that doesn't have a paypal account connected to it, the email owner receives an email giving them options on how to claim it (most likely just setting up an account but I don't know).

Maybe the company have just taken the money.

How much are we talking about here?

(Please don't say it's £4.50 or something similar).
