It is looking like I will have to have an engagement ring shipped to Ireland rather than the UK for Christmas delivery, has anyone experience of this.

A quick Google hints at import duty of 4% and VAT of 21% (!!) is this correct?

Bit of a pisser if it is as it is a fair bit more than the UK frown

strange... is that because of where you'll be at the time of delivery?

I thought people imported into the South because it bypassed some of the import fees?

It's 20% for the UK all in.

tho i would have thought since ireland is part of the EU, then the standard rate of importing precious metal into the EU stays at 2.5% - it is only the VAT rate which changes.

Why, has Cork got special status?
