A guy i know, mid 30s, not very bright, claiming JobSeekers Allowance and Disability. Gets rent paid on council property and council tax paid for him. ALSO works at a restraunt as a driver (only Fri/Sat/Sun nights) making round about £160 to £240 per week. Would you dob him in it? If one were to, what action would be taken?

I'd shop him. Scum, if working and claiming.

If proven - he'd get cut off the dole, also have to back some or most of paid benefits to date.

So you know a guy who is stealing money off the tax payer, and you wonder if to shop him?

Thieving benefit cheats are the scum of the earth.

He'll possibly driving without insurance if he uses his own vehicle unless he has paid for business use.

I think this correct for the job seekers no idea about the disabled benefits

but if he's earning £240 a week I'd have thought thats over 16 hours otherwise there paying £15 for a delivery driver which seams quite a lot

thats an interesting rule i wasnt aware of, would this make the young lad who occasionally delivers me a curry un-insured?

i always assumed business use was applicable to those who were self employed. clearly i was mistaken!

Serious question - If every benefit cheat was rumbled and had their money stopped do you really think we would see a reduction in our taxes?

Nope, if you drive your vehicle in the course of your work, whether employed or self employed, you need business cover. Which is a pain in the backside as it costs a big chunk extra.

depends on the class of business cover - i have it and it cost me no extra - but i only use my car for external meetings, non sales related

We would definitely see a rise in burglaries.

In most cases when people on benefits are caught working, they are told to stop working rather than to stop signing on hehe

How about some sort of reward system? Shop a benefit cheat and get an extra £1,000 on your personnal allowance for a year and a half price burglar alarm.

Thanks for the replies. All pretty much along the lines of what i was thinking. The thing is, the restraunt people are friends of mine and i wouldnt like to get them involved, its not like they are encouraging him, they are possibly unaware he is on benefits. I do know that he has been driving for them since they opened, which is 5 years come January. And the figures quoted, the lower figure is a definate minimum and the upper figure is quite atainable on a busy weekend. The guy works 5Pm to 11Pm Fri/Sat/Sun, therefore over the 15 or 16 hours permitted. That said, if you can earn that muchregardless of the number of hours worked, why should you be on benefits at all?

The funny thing is it would just be cheaper to make them all 'employed'. The job title doesn't matter, it could be "government appointed daytime Tv watcher" They get £10k per annum (taxable) and no other benefits.

They get no special treatment, but are free to find alternative employment if they get offered a better deal. You see how fast they start taking jobs.

Believe the benefit fraud adverts.

THEY WILL GET HIM.

No but seriously, ring the hotline. And the next time you pay your taxes, then remember his face when he gets that nice illegal two hundred pounds
