I just sold an Omega watch. Winning bidder got it for £234. Then I get this message...

"Ciao,
good to see that i won the auction for the Omega.
I'm i taly but i have a very goo friend who has a motorcycle shop in stowmarket, Suffolk.
Could you please dliv the watch there so he can pay it to you cash?
Please let me know.
Thanks
Gianluca"

Now, I then explained PayPal only, or cash/cheque in the post, and when it's cleared
I'll send the watch. No reply yet....

Should I just assume dodgyness? I mean he wants me to 'nip to Surrey. From Cromer, Norfolk!
So, do I make a second chance offer now, before he's replied. I need this money for Christmas and the second bidder will still be looking.
Appreciate some help with this one.

Joe

If you are near the shop then why not give it a go?

Alternatively, post a picture of the watch here and I will match the bid if it is the sort of thing I'm after !

I had this one - pair of speakers, "SORRY COLLECTION ONLY FROM XXX" - reasonable as they are large and delicate, and worth relatively little.

A guy bids and then rings me demanding I deliver them to Birmingham, a 1 hour trip each way???! No car, not even willing to send courier.

Cheers!

Don't even go there.

I've has a few people win things then ask to pay via a 3rd party paypal account. I always cancel the transaction.

I'm just in the process of being stung by an Italian as it happens. I very much doubt I'll see the item back, of course Paypal will refund the tw@t. frown

I did this, thinking I was covering my back. Some little tosser claimed I hadn't sent the item (when I had, I even provided proof of recorded delivery). The fookers just took it out of my bank account instead, causing me to go into an unarranged overdraft and costing me £35 in fees.

Then there was the time that I specifically put 'collection only' on the ad, as it was a heavy item. Someone bid, then asked how much to deliver. I eventually caved in and gave him a price and he complained it was too high! I know it's high, it's a heavy item, which is why it was advertised as pick up only...

Ebay is a joke, avoid and use specialist ad sites and forums from now on. You tend to deal with better people.

I use the noticeboard at work... usually get more, and cash, than ebay. No hassle.

I live near Stowmarket so it should be quite easy to check the shop out if you want.

I think it's shifty but I can't see the angle - unless it's fake cash or his mate mugs you. The normal angle would be to pay via paypal then get you to deliver it to a different address. He then does a paypal charge back and you're screwed because it hasn't been sent to his paypal registered address. This could of course be a prelude to him doing that!

Where's Surrey come into this? Your OP says Stowmarket, Suffolk?
