Hi,

First post in the 'Lounge' so fully expect to be shot down/have post dissected into what's fundamentally wrong with it.

However,
How much does the average PH'er spend on their significant other come Xmas time?

Not married, live together, 3 years in, doesn't want anything specific (present) etc..

Now I know the answer is going to vary depending on each individuals circumstances so for arguments sake we'll presume salary is not massively above national average, will the usual array or mortgage + usual bills to pay each month...

So, while I’m probably not going to worry if my allocated fund is tremendously over or under said responses, I’m just genuinely interested??

Thanks

I'd probably spend anywhere up to £100.

Of course this all depends on whether she has asked for something in particular or if I am left to my own devices and pick something I think she would like.

As someone who didn't get a present from my other half for my 40th birthday in September,my answer would be, buy me something that you've put some thought into, or look forward to the prospect of selling your house in the new year.

I sincerely hope this helps smile

I have spent in the region of £100 - £200 and would place myself firmly in those financial criteria you have placed, that being said, we have been together for 8 months so it the "1st Christmas" I think £100 - £150 is more than reasonable

Or if you are feeling wealthy, a new dyson rollerball hoover thing, she would love that.

It might also turn out to be the closest you get to nosh for the 6 months post gift....

Thank you Mrs Trackside,

That's just the answer I was hoping for...

Although Mattygooner does make an interesting, yet valid point!!

last year was our first christmas, i think i probably spent £50-£100...

This year i bought her one very special present at £300, so that was going to be it other than about £10's worth of silly stocking fillers... but somehow i've ended up blowing another £100 on top of that...

eek

So this is definatley the most expensive Christmas ive ever had..

As Mrs T said though, its more about the "what" than the price - get something she wont expect, but that she will love.

You could always do what a fellow pistonheader did and buy his wife a new mop as a present !!

It's been a while since I had this problem... but from what I remember if it was the right present and I could afford it then it didn't matter how much (or how little). I've had equally great responses to a weekend break at a 4* hotel and to a £10 video - both were a success not because of what they cost but because they were what she really wanted.

That's a shame, it would have saved me a trip to the shops.

About £400 this year, slightly over the top but I have been making a list of things for a while that she said she needs etc so most of the presents are functional except for one item of jewellery.

'reasonable' as in based on your financial status? go with what you can afford. its usually £100-150 for me but it always looks like more and i wrap well. if you know your OH you can make her day with minimal outlay.

last year the OH got a pair of paul smith mary janes [factory outlet, 80% off, ker-ching] and a first edition of her favourite book [ebaytastic]. used a vintage hatbox to pack them in and lovingly wrapped the whole thing in handmade paper with a card i made myself.

get ready for schadenfreude folks as she dumped me on the 21st! hehe

this year, well i've only been seeing her 6 weeks so i don't know her tastes well enough to get her a gift. maybe a weekend away in jan or, if she's really lucky, a frenetic 30seconds in CVM's mobile rape shed.
