I have to design and make a 'jumping robot' using the following materials....
1. Paper
2. Cardboard
3. Elastic bands
4. Glue
5. Paperclips
6. Staples
7. Drawing pins
8. Sticky tape
I'm really struggling, someone must have done this before? Are there any really good designs that I should be trying out? Help frown

make a robot shape, and inside, have the rubber band hanging from the head bit, and a somethink heavy on the other end, a bunch of paperclips or a compact ball of card.

if you can then make a triger, when the lump shoots up, it'll jump the robotic box.

1. Cut a robot shape out of card
2. Flick an elastic band at it

If thats deemed a fail - stab the examiner with the uncoiled paper clip.

Believe it or not, this is final year of a masters engineering degree tongue out Subject is biomimetics. By 'robot', it doesn't have to be robot shaped or anything like that, it just has to use some of the materials above and jump a distance....

Too bad, you're going to fail as you are not the right kind of person to do it.

I was jesting that you clearly aren't fit to be a masters student in said subject if you can't figure this out without the help of others from the internet biggrin

Being in a final year of a master in engineering, I'd hope you'd have the ability to do this yourself.

fking piece of piss.

Take the cardboard, lots of it, make one big box, one smaller box and 8 tubes.

Slip a tube over your upper arms and legs and then one over each of your lower limbs.

Wear the big box on your torso and the littler one on your head, draw a "robot" face on it

Jump into the classroom and say in a robot voice
:
"I AM THE WINNER YOU ARE ALL WORTHLESS SQUIDGY SCUM. KNEEL AT THE FEET OF ROBOCHRIST AND LICK MY ROBO-TESTACLONS"

Then fire the 'laccy bands all over the shop.

Make a shape with the cardboard, attach the elastic bands to it with the staples, use the drawing pin to attach the elastic band to table, strech band and then release the drawing pin so it jumps?

A first from one of the best uni's for my subject in the country says otherwise tongue out I've managed some reasonable distances, but I know there are some more engineers on here so if they can add anything I haven't thought of then that might help, I'm not completely stumped!

I remember making that kind of thing as a child (but not the details unfortunatelt). You make a V-shape out of the cardboard and connect the open end with twisted rubber band. Fold it backwards and then somehow after a short time the thing goes over-centre and jumps up.

Hope you can work out the rest from that!
