Are they fecking serious?
Whatever next FFS, digital moisturiser?
And as usual why am I the only one to be annoyed by this st?

As you were.

"digital" motor is nothing new...

I assume rather than having an "analogue" coil and magnet type..... they are using digital signals to drive a stepper motor... just like CD players etc...

Cant bh too much...clever marketing... good on him!

It's not clever marketing because otherwise I'd be going "wow that sounds amazing I must get one" rather than thinking he must be a .

ETA Besides, he's just jumping on the bandwagon. Surprised he doesn't call it the "iMotor".

The motor in my electric bike is brushless, and is driven by a digital controller which takes signals from a hall effect sensor. I guess from that perspective the whole package is a "digital motor" as one would not work without the other

Some of the benefits include higher life (good thing too, because the fker is expensive...) and more precise control which is essential at high speeds.

I can't really understand the benefit in something like a portable cleaner though.

The motor itself is still a load of magnets and coils, so it is strange to market it as a digital motor I guess.

It got my bullst-o-meter going as well.

I thought James Dyson could have done better than to stick 'digital' in front of something to help it sell. Moving parts can't be 'digital'. Idiot.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one that gets driven batst by stuff like this.

Brushless motors are hugely more efficient than a brushed motor so more suck for less watts, also because they are brushless they can either be very high revving (like this) or very torquey which in models means no need for a gearbox which A.increases the overall efficiency & B. is less weight with no gearbox & C. turns bigger props which are more efficient.
Brushless at these levels would be impossible without digital electronics to produce the 3 phase output from the speed controller.
So yup a digital motor effectively.

My car has lots of electronics in it, including a 'digital bus' (which most inconveniently stops you fitting an aftermarket stereo), but it doesn't make it a digital car.

20 years ago I built a model speedboat which had an electronic speed controller - but it wasn't a digital boat.

Mr Dyson could say 'brushless motor for (insert benefit here)', but I guess his ad agency told him the plebs wouldn't understand that and only bought things whcih had digitals in them.

I shall now go and patent the 'iCleaner' before his marketing team wake up...

In that case it you could call it a digital drive system or some such crap but the motor is and always will be a motor no mater how it is controled brushless or not.

Do you have a digital central heating system/oven/car etc etc

You've just described a PWM (pulse width modulation) speed controller...whoopee do. The motor still isn't digital ffs.

I agree with you! I was just describing my system...

5 times faster than an f1 engine too, I'd be impressed if it was a v10 but it's not it's an electric fking motor used for pleasuring me when the sex box breaks

This advert is annoying just like the other one where he tells us we've all been so simple and not realise that normal cleaners are rubbish as you can't go round objects on the floor - objects I may add that any normal person would move prior to cleaning.

I would never buy a dyson even if they were as good as he makes out they are as the adverts just piss me off with the way that Dyson tit patronises the general public. "You're stupid and I'll tell you why" attitude. rage

it's a fking cleaner. It sucks up dirt! Simple.

I did put something about meeting a member of his family but removed it.

you can't be using them right as if you draw your hands of slowly they're perfect, in fact the only proe
can be that your hands still feel wet when they're not they're just cold.

Apart from Dyson cleaners (hoovers) those hand dryers are wicked!

I'm sure blokes wash their hands when one of those is in the boys room where normally they wouldn't bother.

Mope it ain't PWM, that would be a DC motor with brushes.Google brushless motor & you'll find out why. You alter the frequency of the 3 phase feeds to change the speed & that in my book makes it digital.

its not that they don't work they do.

Perhaps this is a personal thing. You have to concentrate so hard in order not to touch the edges. This is hard because of the air blowing on you as you raise and lower your hands they want to be blown to the edges.

Sorry but I see people getting out of the cubical and wetting their hands with no soap all the time then going on those things which means their dirty fking peasant hands are doing the same. And I don't want to touch the same surfaces thank you.

I work in hospitals and they are full of them they are also full of the great unwashed who I don't want to share their germs with.

Please if there is another way of using them without making contact with any surface please let me know.
