Right I am in a bit of a quandary lads.......

I managed to get tomorrow off work as its the wife’s birthday. Now she is working till 1630hrs, and to be nice I said I would do a bit of a spruce up round the house and make a romantic dinner (or do the prep at least 1630hrs is a bit early!)

Now by my reckoning once I have got up at 06:30hrs made her a nice breakfast of poached eggs on toast with oven cooked bacon, and gone out and warmed the car and done the wind shield (its defiantly going to be bloody icy tomorrow! This is not a normal thing to do as we live in a flat, but being the first proper frost and her birthday deserves extra effort me thinks....(I know I’m a mug!) ) This is going to take me through till 0830hrs (need to warm up again...) I then have at least 3 hours of house cleaning to do, if I go flat out. Which I won’t... I also have to collect someone from Heathrow. Now that too is going to take 3 hours. Then the cooking, probably once I have been to the shops 2 hours worth (st load of washing up to do!)

And then 15 mins ago my old man turned up from visiting his other rented house on the way home with my old SCALECTRIX set...... about 40 meters of the fecking stuff..... With my 2 favourite cars... the escort Cosworth in blue and gold and a XJ220 in platinum.....

Now the airport run I have to do. But should I fk the cleaning and cooking off take her out for a meal and get her hammered on bubbly, and spend my day building a massive track including banking, rumble strips/rocks, X-over’s and a massive straight, (probably squeeze 15 meters in between 2 rooms!)

If you have an XJ220 and an Escort Cosworth you should have a dishwasher that will save you time!

The 4x4 system was so simple it was genius wasn't it?
I also had the 88 (?) Lemans winning jag and its Porsche rival with working brake lights and MAGNATRAX!

I have those too! Haha! biggrin Should PH members get together, bring their best cars and have a Scalectrix championship? smile

ETA: I also have a pair of original Mini Coopers, although I placed lead weights in the back and combined with the worn tyres, they would powerslide round bends smile

I'm a girl and I'm stuck, the track is a pretty awesome idea..but for your safety I'd do the housework and leave the track to the weekend/after work on Weds!

If you are seriously considering building some kiddy's scalextric then I suggest you take a gander at the match.com thread because you wont have a wife for much longer and will soon be scrabbling about in the dating dirt in that thread.

FFS take care of your MRS!!!!

I have also fallen under the spell of Scalextric recently. Watching old home videos of me and my kid when we were younger playing with Metro GTi slot cars on a figure 8 track just brought back memories.

5 minutes later, we were standing in Argos with 3 big boxes. I even went on Ebay and bought a Ford Focus WRC car (4wd) and installed a 30,000 rpm motor.

Now the Christmas decorations are up, the track has been put away. Oddly the layout we made looked like a penis.

Build the track! Birthdays come every year, st loads of Scalextric track does not!

When the word Scalectrix is seen by any man it's like a Mongoose to a snake, like Mario to a mushroom, like Terry to June, like Scooby Doo to sandwiches, it's a gutteral, ferral chemical reaction that simultaniously sparks BOTH of a mans brain cells and calls him into action, to build a race track, to prepare machine, terrain and electrics, to live that dream that on this day he may race, he may race in his own house using some of the worlds most legendary cars in the spirit in which we, as a species intended, with fire, fury and vigor, with passion and a deep seated need to compete, this is no arena for girls, this is a chance for gladiators to rise and for one moment maybe, just maybe...
The fking thing will work!

Build the track, say it was for her. When she doesn't like it, make it up to her with a meal out somewhere nice.

You will still have had a day of track fun.

Yeah, with grips on the tyre, the front and rear axles were joined together by two tensionless rubber bands, so simple but so effective.
Edit: Nothing could touch it, especially off the line!
