Now I'm one of those serious sceptics that has no time for conspirancy theories, however when someone as eminent as Buzz Aldrin says they saw something following Apollo 11 you have to at least ask the question, "what the hell was it?"

But wasn't that meant to be 6000 miles away?

Depends on how long after the separation from the upper stage the sighting was.

The Apollo crew have never been overly perplexed by this and always looked on it as no big deal.
The best explanation is that it was one of the Lunar Module Adaptor panels which was following on behind.

Of course, conspiracy and UFO nut jobs see cover up and conspiracy in every corner.

I've always believed it was this:

They were filimg the clangers at the same time as the Apollo missions, and they probably saw the Clangers rocket ship. As the Clangers wasnt shown until after the Apollo 11 mission, they had to keep quiet- can you imagine the uproar if they showed the Clangers on the Moon before Apollo 11. Its this silence which has fed the conspiracy.

Now you need to forget all I've said. The Clangers was filmed AFTER Apollo 11. Understand?

This was during the cold war, they probably saw something that "doesn't exist".

Even if it was an alien spaceship can you imagine the announcement?

"There is a mysterious being in space just sitting their watching us and playing no part in our lives."

The pope would sue them for copyright infringements.

That's really cunning by NASA, they never sent men to the moon and to put off the conspiracy theorists they do a UFO scam as well to have another set of conspiracy theorists give their hoax some sort of realism.

I don't know which group to fall into ! Help.

One of those panels could lok L shaped depending on the way it reflected the sunlight.

It's not an issue and the astronauts were not concerned about it - except for the fact that they asked Mission Control to ensure that it wouldn't hit them.

With no frame of reference to gauge distance, it could have been 100 yards away, or a mile.
