I'm coming down to London this weekend to watch the mighty Hull City whip Arsenal, ha!
Were all staying centrally, please can someone recomend some pubs & clubs (or areas)that have normal "un-pretentious" people who will be out for the evening for good xmas fun.
In pareticular would live to find some great irish bars.

I know its a very general question, but would really appreciate your recomendations.
P.s Hope I haven't published in wrong forum!

The Cardinal in Pimlico is what you're after... nice, cheap and has that familiar stale pub smell.

Where are you staying?

From the arsenal ground head down Holloway Road (if the police allow you to do so) and onto Upper Street - plenty of pubs down there.

95% of pubs and bars in London are 'normal'.

I hope I haven't come across as critical of London people & pubs i.e not been "normal", it ceratinly wasn't intended. I just know in most cities there are always areas which appeal to a certain "types" of people and I assumed the Mayfair Piccadilly area was possibly one of them!I stand corrected.
Thanks for recomendations so far, any clubs recomended?

Bars in Mayfair might be pretentious given the general amount of cash sloshing around there, although the pubs really arent at all. The West End generally is quite touristy, which is the polar opposite to pretentious.

for my sins i live in hull, but used to go to the big smoke every weekend. where do you go in hull and i'll find something similar in london.

having said that, if one pub isn't your type, there'll be another less than 50yards away that is.

Mayfair actually has some excellent old-school boozers, not at all pretentious (which is more prevalent in Chelsea/South Ken/Knightsbridge). If you want unpretentious as in tacky head to touristy Picadilly/Leicester Square/Covent Garden.

Upper Street is a good middle ground if you want to stay local to Emirates.

If you stay away from the generic chains All Bar One, Wetherspoons, Pitcher and Piano etc there are some fantastic little boozers around, whereabouts are you staying or will be drinking?

Any Sam Smiths pubs get the thumbs up from me, nice proper pubs and its an independant brewery so generally reasonably priced and some cracking lagers and beers

Depends where you are staying as to where you want to go out, as mentioned Upper St is near to Emirates or, try this website:

http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/results.shtml...

the search I have done there is on Mayfair.

Spot on that man!

Chandos just off Traf Square is always a favourite of mine.

This link is quite useful, shows all the ones in town http://www.jamesgretton.co.uk/samuelsmiths

Soho is a good area to start (some nice old pubs and more modern bars), just be wary of any with rainbows over the door unless that's your thing. hehe

You could always ask in the London section - people seem to be quite clued up about such things.

Chandos very busy during the week after work / pre theatre. You should be okay at the weekend though.

Ye olde Cheshire Cheese on fleet street - BRILLIANT rabbit warren of a boozer.
