I bet the cars over there love it with all that cold air, -40degrees is crazy, do you have heaters on the fuel to get it to ignite? Or does it still ignite itself at -40?
I bet your cars develop 10+bhp more than a UK model just because of the temp difference!
the works cars are plugged in overnight they have electric warmers to keep the engine oil above , were using winter diesel which is good for -60c ...problem is the steering freezes , its like driving the old 3 litre capris without power steering I bet your cars develop 10+bhp more than a UK model just because of the temp difference!

I'd love to experience that low a temperature. How long does it take before it's too uncomfortable for un-covered skin?
I was wondering something similar - does it feel as cold as it is?we can have 25 degree temperature changes overnight which effect you , ive found it gets painfull on the face at anything below -35c normally outside for 2hrs at a time but well wrapped up .
We had a medic from oz a few years back ( Frazer island ) it was -48c in Siberia and he was going back to +43c in Oz with high humidity , he said he spent 3 days submerged in the pool trying to aclimatise

Oooo I'm going to edge my bets on that being a Navara in the background.
Hows it coping?
it is indeed , its a works car and funnily enough it wouldn't start this morning !! Hows it coping?

it seems to be ok up to -35 below this we have problems with the battery
the worst cars are the fleet of Lada Niva 4x4 ......ive got to many painfull memories of driving these with defective heaters !!!

Lowest I've experienced was -27 in Nova Scotia. It was surprisingly bearable. Even whilst wearing a kilt
Probably cos it was "dry" and not damp.

All these stories I hear about eyeballs freezing unless you blink; teeth shattering; instant frostbite? Billy BS? Or not?
When I lived in Canada, within a week we had:1. Kid licked a fire hydrant when it was about -20. It cost him a few layers of his tongue IIRC
2. Kid decided to take off his gloves to open the school door. He got stuck. The fire brigade removed the school door to get him to hospital.......
So yes, instant freezing/sticking to metal is possible IME....

Last year we had -17c a couple of times (south Holland) which I thought was pretty good for a 'regular' European country. As it happened the car started first time every morning despite being out in the cold.
Coldest I have experienced was in the Alps last year. -21c in jeans and trainers wasnt much fun!
It's bloody nippy in West Holland tonight, not sure how cold but as I can't smoke in the rented house I'm actually cutting down on the nicotine.Coldest I have experienced was in the Alps last year. -21c in jeans and trainers wasnt much fun!
I've spent some time in Canada. The first time I went outside in -25 all I had to do was walk 25 yards to the taxi. I got two thirds the way there and didn't think I'd make it. The inside of my lungs just froze. Did get used to it though, so that spending half an hour outside a nightclub chatting wasn't uncomfortable.
