The Speeaker of the House DID tell him it was un-parliamentary.

In Ireland, MPs are called TDs.

And the Speaker is called the Ceann Comhairle.

Perhaps they never prohibited it on the basis that they never dreamt that anyone would use it in a Dail Session.
