So you get a time machine...

Would your first journey be forwards or backwards?

Backwards. To just before I got the time machine. Then I'd wait until I got it again(?), so I'd have two.

Then I could have time machine races with a friend.

Ooh, tough choice....seeing as my car isn't overly good, I'd have to go forward to see what my life will be like, and hopefully where I'll have a lambo or something hehe

I'd go back and then put a lot of money in a high interest savings account, then come back to the present tongue out

Or forward to a place where you have a twenty five year old Polo...

To find you'd lost it all in early 2009 when the bank went bust

Difficult question.

1) Go back in time and kill hitler or his mother/father etc and save several million lives.

2) Ditto a bit earlier but ensure the Arch Duke Ferdinand didn't get shot.

3) Repel the Vikings or Normans and see how things turned out.

4) Go to Bethlehem about 2000 years ago just to check out who's right wink

No point going forward to find out you die next week or remain stuck in your dead end job for the rest of your life. (Unless you bring the lottery numbers back with you)

But is this a one way trip hypothesis?

Tough decision. Do I go forwards, hopefully to disprove the MMGW/CC? Or do I go backwards and provide Mr & Mrs Brown with advice on contraception?

I'd go back ~2000 years, put the moves on Mary Magdalene (is that her name? Jesus' ma) and make whoopie, thereby becoming the father of the "Son of God" and therefore being: God.

Bow down, bhes.

Go back to 1966 and buy a brand new Mk1 cortina 1500GT 2 door and park it in a garage.

Might drive around for a bit first, driving some roads and visiting places that are not so over run with people.

Then watch as the whole of Europe becomes part of the USSR.

In the absence of said time machine ... if you're at a loose end there is a fair maiden who you could save elsewhere on PH.

Obviously backwards and place a few bets and make a few investmentsm i.e. Microsoft/google/yahoo. I'd be a very wealthy man now.

At first my thoughts were to take a course of action that would lead me to riches beyond my wildest dreams but having considered it a bit more I would have a time machine which is fairly likely to result in riches on its own.

Therefore I would have to concentrate on enriching myself by aquiring rare items that money can't necessarily buy, probably in the form or rare cars to leave for my future self to find in a barn.

Having carefully studied the Back to the Future films I would be very careful not to meet my parents in the past and almost get off with my mum. Not because of the ramifications for my future but because it would be wrong.

The safest option has to be to go forwards in time? No danger of changing anything that may cause a paradox, new technologies to steal and bring back to the present, and a knowledge of future events would be a gold mine in itself! Why go into the past and risk changing your own future from that point onwards? Nope, the future is, errr, the way forward getmecoat

I would go back to the early 70s and buy a 1973 Porsche 911 RS and a slightly used 1970 Dodge CHallenger Hemi then place them in storage. Ready for sale now.

I would also go back to the bronze age with a tank (preferably one that has been adapted to run on gasified charcoal)and take on troops with the bows and arrows!
