So,

with a natural follow on from THIS thread

Who had issues getting OUT of work?

It would seem TVP, Reading is not the best place to be when you get snow

We were told to go home early but the place is gridlocked, along with the A329M it joins and probably the M4

Deep, deep, joy!

I think I will, the rain and snow melt has all frozen. A guy from marketing tried to clear it with a hammer. I was quite shocked that I was the only one with a spade which is currently being put to use!!!

We've got customers calling up telling us they've got 4in of snow and blizzards!

We're only 10 miles from them, and only have had sleet and random bursts of snow.

Not looking forwards to the ice from all the melted snow/rain.

Despite warnings of chaos out on the roads on the radio, I should be OK.

It's been raining here most of the day and my pressing concern was that the temperature dropped below freezing again suddenly which would basically turn everywhere into an icerink as all the salt will have been washed away and there is standing water everywhere, but the temp is still just below 4 celsius.

35 minutes until I find out!!

I'm stuck at work until 6pm. Hoping everyone will have gone home early, cleared the roads for me and I'll breeze down the M3 back to Southampton.

Or is that a bit optimistic? biggrin

I dropped my car off at lunch and walked back to work. The roads were chaos then, and are even worse now by all accounts.

I bailed out and got home.

The forecasts I had been seeing hadn't been predicting this. I'm not sure whether the local roads have even been gritted or not.

Basingstoke has seen heavy snowfall but it's around freezing still so it might be slushy. If that lot freezes it will be hell.

Bloody dangerous.. Our forecourt is an icerink now, 1 inch thick of slush puppy all over the floor and very slippy under it.

Road seems fine though!

Hope its not going to get worse.. I'm going straight from this job to another job until 1am tonight, want to be able to get home later! frown

I left work in Bracknell at 3.30 - got a lift back with a lady from the office.

Got to edge of crowthorne (about 3 miles or so) took about 2 hours. In the end, I walked the rest of the way (about 4,5 miles) in the snow.

There were lorries parked up on one of the hills who couldnt make it up or down for fear of jacknifing, and cars skidding everywhere. I had to run out of the way of one that came skidding toward the embankment i was walking on...

Still, home, warminig up with a feeling of satisfaction that I had a hard long walk, and I managed it all ok smile

Got home fine- Actually it was the lightest traffic I've seen for ages smile The side road I am parked on is distinctly slippy, however I was highly impressed that the A8 didn't bat an eyelid driving up the steep road, with a very steep 3point turn built in!

I do somewhat fear for its safety tonight though, sure there will be some muppets sliding down the road frown

For once the BBC got it spot on. I watched the weather forecast on-line at around 2pm, and decided to bail out with much hast. It was obvious it was going to be chaos as soon as the sun went down.
