The lowering of Parental standards.
Discussion
When I was a kid, my mum used to push me and my sister around the supermarket in the built in seats of the shopping trolley, whilst doing the weekly shop. We used to get given half a crust of bread to eat as it would keep us quiet. We walked alongside the trolley once we got to around 2-3 and could be trusted not to run off.
Nowadays, I will open a bottle of drink and take a swig as I walk around a shop, I will then put it through the tills half drunk or whatever.
I am perfectly ok with these two things, but I saw something in the local supermarket today that made me mad for some reason.
There was a kid, around 7 or 8 and therefore too big (he was a tubby f
ker too) to fit in the trolley seats. He was sat in the main basket of the trolley with his mother (could have been grandmother tbh) pushing him around the shop. This I can cope with, not recommended and I wouldn't let my kids do this when they are that age, but not enough to tip me over the edge.
So with only luke warm urine I carry on my shop.
I see them on the next aisle and the little f
ker has got his pudgy mitts on a can of squirty cream and is squirting it directly into his mouth. His mother/grandmother/hag sees what he is doing and asks him if he is going to eat it all because if he is she will have to go and get another can of it. I can't help but comment as I walk past and say something along the lines of "If that's his idea of a snack it's no wonder he's turning into a fat little b
d" Mother/grandmother/wicked witch of the east midlands turns to me shocked and says "How dare you say that, he'll get a complex"
I walk off saying that it might help him to lose weight in the long run.
Was I over-reacting? After all it's not my kid, it just got me mad.
Also does that make me hypocritical? Or does it make a difference because the kid is a future heart attack victim and I am an unlikely candidate (fit and healthy)?

Parental standards have lowered indeed.
As children we would never be given food in a supermarket before it had been paid for and we kept quiet because we were told to, not because we were given what we wanted. Because of that, I now wouldn't even think of drinking or eating anything in a supermarket while I shopped.
I won't even start on your calling a child a b
d.

The irony of you telling a child it's a fat little b
d then lamenting the loss of parental standards is not lost
My child was nowhere near me, so no issues for me.
d then lamenting the loss of parental standards is not lost
d is neither here nor there. Neil H said:

Indeed. Eating anything in the Supermarket before you have paid for it seems a little bit council to me.Parental standards have lowered indeed.

d" Only a chav or a pikey would take something that does not belong to them and consume it before paying.

I was never allowed to eat in a supermarket - It was a "council" thing to do when I was a child and it still is! Supermarkets are for shopping not for eating.
I grew up on a council estate and none of us did that.I think that makes it "gyppo"

Ok that is a fair comment, It is not council/gyppo it is just scummy - Why consume what you have not paid for. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
