not just for uk but i need some for evenings at ski resort. any recommendations? like the look of saloman fastpackers but one review says theyre not that good in the wet. Dont like a huge heavy boots but something light, slip proof and waterproof.

that said for £20 decathlon do some shoes that are designed for snow anyone tried these?

Icegrips are what you want- work far better than a new pair of shoes

What you definitely don't want to wear is shoes with a 100% smooth leather sole like I foolishly did on Thursday.

but leather soles means pissed 'bet you a fiver i can slide furthest' contests!

i have had a pair of these for about 4 years. only wear them in winter, super grippy soles with a padded tongue and sole making them the comfiest/warmest things i have ever put on my feet. totally waterproof ime.

I discovered my skate shoes are fine in snow but I might as well be wearing smart shoes when walking over ice.

I have a pair of Salomon 'snow clogs' which work perfectly well. Bought from Snow + Rock years ago, I'm not sure if they're still available.

I've worn my black traditional golf shoes before now. Metal spikes, waterproof, comfy and virtually slip free. (not very kind on wooden floors though)

I've been breaking in a pair of Northface hedgehogs recently, very light and comfortable. Fully waterproof with a gortex lining. The tread pattern gives excellent grip on ice and snow.

Ze Germans just put a big pair of socks over the top of their shoes. Never tried it myself but sounds sensible!

Seems to work for tyres, so why not shoes?

I've always wondered... When you get those "injury vultures for you" type adverts where they've sued people for millions because someone slipped on their floor, how come it's always the floor manufacturer that gets sued, and not the manufacturer of the shoes they were wearing at the time?

Come to that, why don't they sue the manufacturer of the fkwit who slipped? Oi, Mum & Dad, sling yer 'ooks, it's my 'ouse now!

Hmm...

Well, fair enough I guess

I've got some Kahtoola Microspikes which you can attach to any footwear. They're amazing - you can walk on solid ice and feel as secure as you would if walking on dry tarmac.
