YAEQ - Yet Another Ebay Question...
Discussion
I can't go into the specifics due to a dispite that will be raised shortly
Basic details are -
Mobile phone sold on ebay with a cracked screen, otherwise fully working
Phone received all ok by buyer
Buyer emails a few days later claiming camera is not working (rest of phone is fine) and problems with one of the buttons.
Camera was working fully when sent, phone has no issues whatsoever.
Buyers profile reveals items were purchased to fix said phone (relevant screwdrivers etc)
Buyer claims that mate looked inside and claims that camera cable is broken
Buyer now very unhappy now asking me what I am going to do about it.
Has anyone been through a similar situation? Basically the phone was 100% working save for the screen damage when sent, and now it would seem the buyer has broken it and is probably going to go for a refund.
I have ended email transactions now saying that I believe they broke it when trying to repair the screen, and that I am not willing to offer a refund or accept the broken phone back.
If this goes to paypal dispute (which it inevitably will), am I likely to be forced to pay him back and take the phone back? I have sold hundreds of items with no negative feedback at all, and all my transactions are honest. Seems a bit irritating that, through no fault of my own, I may now have to take this thing back and lose money on it in the process.

I would tell him that unless it is returned to you, in the same condition as it was sent from you, then you will not entertain the thought of a refund, as he has admitted that the phone has been opened, then he cannot return it to you untampered with.
Also tell him that if he returns it, you will compare it with the detailed photots that you took prior to sending, and will be checking the smart water mark on the phone (instructed to put it there by your insurance compamy when you were using the phone), and will be checking the serial number etc.
If he is scamming, all that is enough to put him off.
If not, then keep your fingers crossed that he doesnt send it back via trackable means (Paypal would not refund until they have seen the confirmation of delivery)

All good advice - re this one - as I have refused a refund, does this mean I will be forced to refund if he decides to send it back anyway, or do you mean if Paypal rule in his favour? If not, then keep your fingers crossed that he doesnt send it back via trackable means (Paypal would not refund until they have seen the confirmation of delivery)
(sorry for the probably obvious question, in 5 years of small trading online, I have never had a problem
