Why does stuff break down at Christmas?
Discussion
Last year, late afternoon on new years eve, the immersion heater developed a leak and tripped all the electrics.
Spent the rest of the day finding a new one, getting a neighbour to come and help taking the old one off the wall. Followed by cleaning up and repairing the water damage.
Fortunately I can manage plumbing and the hot water was restored the next evening.

My central heating boiler broke down last thursday coinciding nicely with the first serious fall of snow. Local gas engineer was snowed in and couldn't come out until Monday.
Had exactly the same thing last year, first bit of snow then the boiler broke down, had to get an emergency central heating boiler repair man out asap he got stuck in the snow but managed to get here a few hours later.(cost me a small fortune but worth it to get the heating back on).I have a calor gas heater always at hand, very useful in those awkward situations.

Two years ago to the day, my dishwasher packed up, about 2 weeks out of warranty. A few years back it was the central heating boiler. Yesterday the thermostat went on the blink. Is there some sort of law of physics that says stuff breaks at Christmas?
What's packed up for you?

Colleague's wipers packed up on his VW Sharan, needs a new motoe and linkage to repair it. A nice £500 bill on Chrsitmas Eve is just what everyone needs isn't it.
Ran the wipers with them frozen to his screen? Our garage freezer seems to be on its way out. The top shelf isn't cold, but the bottom three seem to be OK.....
