Who do you tip at Christmas, how much, and how do you do it?

Our postie is pretty good, but I feel a bit of a dick chasing after her and waving a tenner in her face. I was thinking of putting it in a Christmas card but it's awkward when you don't know her name. I can't think of anyone else who comes to the house this would be appropriate for (no milkman, paperboy or window cleaner).

(A tenner because the only thing smaller I have is four pound coins.)

I don't bother with Postie as it's hardly ever the same guy each week. However, I've just been out to the binmen with a bag of a dozen jam doughnuts. Dunno if that's being stingy and they'd prefer a cash offering, but it would be doughnuts or fresh air!

At least you could launch the coins at her with a catapult which saves the embarrassment of chasing after her.

Not the postie, as they change them every day, and the binmen here are useless fkers, so wrapped up in self righteous council rules, that if you dont put the right things in the bin, or the lid is slightly raised, or the bin isnt in the right place, you get a fixed penalty notice, so they definately arent getting a tip

Doh, forgot the binmen (or whatever the PC term is). They only refused to take our bin once this year, which is probably a record. And that was the wife's fault. Or maybe the fault of whoever decided that black and green are sufficiently contrasted to be distinguished in the dark. But I digress...

On a serious note, a tenner does seem a lot, but how much is too much and how much is stingy (i.e. possibly worse than no tip at all)? I guess to put this into perspective, I have relatives who are getting socks this year, so a tenner to the postie seems unfair on them.

Don't tip the postie as he is a msery and I don't like him.

Don't tip the binmen, as I don't usually see them.

Did tip the girls at the hairdressers last week, but they are a nice bunch of girls.

My daughter did well for tips from her paper round, think she ended up with over £50

I tipped the window cleaner - solid reliable bloke.

Dustmen - No, I still think the thieving b*st*rds nicked my bike.

Postmen/woman - No, keeps changing.

Tipped the hairdresser but nobody else.

Posite is not the same most of the time.

The Waste Management Executives do a really scensored job anyway and deserve nothing - do your job and pick up the rubbish left out in the same place every time mad I have lost count of the number of times I've had to call and get them to come back another day this year - far worse than in previous years. Bah Humbug!

Nobody else really to do.

Most of my staff really.

The butler has had a particularly bad year with his health, and yet he still manages to bring me my meals on time. I also tipped both our chefs and all the kitchen staff, the gardener, our personal shopper, and our resident car-detailer.

Just a fiver really to the window cleaner because he's a nice chap

Hairdresser got a couple of extra quid on top of my normal tip as i've only been going there a few months.

Binmen wake me up every time they come and block the road with their truck.

Never seen a postie, they obviously get to me well after i've gone to work.

My windows are filthy.

In short, no-one got paid this year ...

I gave our postman his red elastic bands back.

The milkman doesn't come until after I've gone to work and leaves the milk in the sun - so he's sacked.

Dustbin men don't get anything becuase they stink. And they won't take my bin if the lid is slightly open as a result of not having it collected for 12 weeks. And they leave a trail of litter behind them. And they finish at lunchtime.

I don't give tips because I get ste service from everybody.....start doing good and I'll contemplate telling you to 'never eat yellow snow' next year!

Ditto. Especially the postie who feels free to go on strike at the drop of a hat, force documents through a letterbox to the point of destruction and leave things hanging out of the letterbox on occasions.

We just gave ours a tenner. We leave a £5 tip at restaurants after one meal so ten pounds for a post man seems fair.
