After many years of holidaying in Spain, (both mainland and islands inc the Canaries) I thought we'd have a change next year and head for Italy.

I've travelled extensively around the Dolomites, as far south as the Garda / Iseo areas, and have also been around Brescia & Bergamo on business.

So what I need is the Italian equivalent of the Spanish Costas (i.e. Beach type holidays), that is suitable for two children aged 11 & 5.

I've heard good things of the Rimini area, but need some specific guidance regarding resorts etc.

Thanks in advance!

W

Note to Mods - I'd appreciate it if this thread was left "In't Lounge" for better coverage, as I've asked the same question in the holiday's forum and got no response!

Went to Lido d' Jesolo for the day once. I hated it, but it's probably just what you're looking for (not really Italy in Italy!)

Just a few miles from Rimini try - Cesenatico...

Miles of sandy beaches, shallow waters and fantastic food. I didn't go there with a family, but could see it was purpose built for it...
Try Google for info..

Cinque terra is meant to be fantastic. (The five islands it stands for) Or look for Liguria.
Or go REALLY south to Calabria.

what sort of accomodation are you looking for?

http://www.villaggiorose.com/web/EN/

I have stayed here 4 times over the past 30 years or so( although not for the last 15).

Not far from Rimini, San Marino, Censinatico (SP?)

the site is about half a mile from the beach along a sandy track and the water is very shallow for 50 yards or so out to some large breakwaters so great for kids.

The whole town/shops come alive at night but was not rowdy.

It looks like it has undergone a lot of development on the site recently as it was just a camp site when I was thee last, but I would love to take the kids there again.

For a family treat, try 'Gardaland', it's a theme park, great fun.

Unsurprisingly, it's near lake Garda.

Lido D'Jeselo is probably what you are looking for.

Yes, it's commercial, but it's also only a hour and a bit from Vienna, Venice on the bus/boat so if you really want you can go get some culture.
