All right - we've all had them, good and bad flatmates. Thankfully, I am past the stage where I share anymore. What's your best / worst story?

Came home one day after weeks of not getting along with Mr flatmate to find a used syringe on the kitchen sink with an empty bottle of methadone next to it. He was gone the next day. tt

Work 'colleague' I use the word very very reluctantly I shared the flat above the surgery with.

I had a personal bank statement opened, it was left on the stairs as the post always was. I checked with our secretary in case she'd opened in error, she hadn't. So I checked with my 'flatmate' I said I had no problem if she had opened it in error as mistakes happen I just needed to know. She looked me square in the eye and said no she had not opened any post that day.

I did doubt her (there were other things that had occurred to make me doubt her) so I stomped around slammed a couple of doors stating very loudly that I could no longer trust anyone I worked with as someone had opened my post and not told me so I was off to report it. I went a told my head nurse, whilst I was discussing it with her my flatmate came down and produced a note that she had 'found' in her uniform, on it was written a note to remind her to tell me that she had opened a letter of mine!!

She was fired not long after, for general incompetence, lying etc. she was a pathological liar from the sublime to the ridiculous, some of the stories she enjoyed telling were so far fetched, it was sad really but still didn't stop me wanting to punch her!

I have also lived with two other colleagues and they are two of my best friends even though we have all moved on got married etc, so it's really not all bad smile One of them I worked with before we shared a house the other moved in to the works flat with me when she started the job and we became good friends really quickly.

First flatmate I ever had was quite a nice bloke but never cleaned. There was washing up that had been there for months. I refused to do it out of principle, but it was minging - mouldy and smelly. I just never used the kitchen.

Last flatmate I had before I left the UK was also my landlord - seemed a decent chap, if a bit too into his ridiculous fashions, tanning and bodybuilding. But then completely refused to return my deposit when I left and ignored my phone calls and emails. Tit.

Flatmate in London was a total user (of people, not drugs) and like a mug I went along with it. He moved out two weeks before I did from our first flat (I had just bought somewhere and he was going to be my lodger) but left all his stuff in the flat which I had agreed to shift to the new place as he was out the country for a couple of months. He then however refused to pay his rent for those two weeks because he hadn't been in the flat so why should he. His parents agreed with him on this too ffs.

I went to work abroad for a year and a couple of his friends (married couple) moved in to share. He wanted me to pay him commission or part of their rent because he had "found" them. He could stick that up his pipe. When I came back from overseas they had all moved out on less than a weeks notice and I had to change the carpets because it looked like they had spent most of the year dropping curry on the floor. Sweet

Still, my best mate was a flatmate for a year and we had a great time, booze, films & games on a pretty much constant basis, so its not all bad.

I don't speak to the first guy anymore by the way.

I had a flatmate who was like this, but would also regularly try to kill herself so not only was there mouldy food, there was blood everywhere.

I had a flatmate once who thought it would be funny to put chili powder in my contact lens case. He had only been there for less than a week. Strangely he moved out by the end of the week with a black eye.

What a wker! I would have been heartily tempted at that point to throw his stuff out of the new place and invite him to collect it!

years ago we (GF & I) were invited to move in with a couple we worked with and knew fairly well. She had a great rack and he was an alright bloke so I said 'why not?' they turned in a matter of weeks into the housemates from hell. She used to wander round in her undies and he would then have a go at me for 'ogling' (I was trying to be discreet) and then we came back one night and they had moved half the sitting room furniture into the dining room and locked it. Said we would have separate living arrangements from now on...we were ok as we had the only TV. Soon after we found cash & jewellery had gone from our bedroom, which we now locked. Police came but nothing done. After the couple moved out we found a key to our bedroom in theirs...then the threatening letters and calls from the bailiffs started - they had both been sacked from the job hence the moving out. Eventually I found her mother's address in some old papers in a drawer and we tracked her down and gave that address to the debt collectors. Total s the pair of them.

Not had to share much since then except with GFs which has its own special downside, but flatmates I have had have usually been temporary and fine.

One guy got so addicted to World of Warcraft that he stopped going to work, lost his job, then eventually ran out of money. To pay for his WoW subscription he sold his laptop, spare PC, and to feed himself he stole the Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Didn't come out of his room for over a week at a time, and eventually we evicted him after two rent cheques bounced. He moved out during the day while everyone else was at work.

The main issue was that he was lying about the whole thing saying he was on shift work and had no shifts, and when confronted about the rent he disappeared for 2 days. He said he'd been stopped by the cops for driving his untaxed car, and that the cops had confiscated his wallet so he couldn't pay the rent. Which was BS as at that time I knew the sergent in the station where he was apparently locked up - not that you'd be locked up for 2 days for having no tax. Just after he moved out his car got "burnt out" (we assume to get the insurance money).

I was, but I needed the money and I was a total mug.

I have a lot more stories about him, but I'm not sure they're for public consumption. Whilst I know he is a git, I feel some sympathy for him now given what subsequently happened to him (large breakdown, huge debts, losing job etc).

Not sure if thats a euphamism, but in a house I shared with 4 others someone did an indestructible turd once. This thing withstood 10 flushes and half a roll of paper from all sharers at various points over 2 days. It was Double Deckered too, and still wouldnt go. In the end one of the girls got two bin bags, one on each arm and broke it up as she couldnt face laying another on it again

Whe i moved into my first house i had a lodger to help pay the bills, nice bloke, good taste in women, he would bring back quite a few different ones, no problems so far until he brought back an aspiring model, she was blonde, big tits, nice figure but daft, really really daft, if she was cold she would light the gas rings on the cooker rather than put the heating on, she would try and include herself in converstions but would fail due to not being able to really think. The crowning glory of the whole thing was when she spray tanned herself in my white bathroom, i am not kidding, she dyed the whole room orange, there was an outline of her against the white tiles around the bath and a sort of overspray smeech everywhere, he eventually go tbored and ditched her for a girl who had a bad temper and once told me off for cooking in my own kitchen and I had to tell her to fk off, she actually treated me like i was the lodger.

I ended up asking him to move out when at 6am one morning his alarm clock kept going off for about 1/2 an hour but there was no signs of life from him, I got up and knocked on his door and upon hearing nothing but alarm clock assumed he had stayed out, i went in to turn the clock off and found him in his duvet cover on the bed, pillows and duvet on the floor, the bed covered in sick/poo/blood/??? and was just the matress, he was covered in more poo/sick and the stench was overpowering, i shouted at him to wake the fk up but he was unconsious, I decided to go down stairs and there i found a trail of poo/sick all down the stairs, hall, kitchen, clothes were left where he had taken them off and when i got to the bathroom it was like a slaughter.

It seems he had had a hard night on Guiness and blackcurrent topped with a kebab.

I almost killed him once i managed to wake him with a cup of water in the face.

The sick had stripped the paint from any wall he had touched so I ended up repainting most of the house, he was sorry but left soon after.

Not me but a mates student flatmate.

This guy had his own knife, fork, spoon and plate. He never washed them in the 2 years he lived in that flat, he would lick them clean (!) and put them back in "his" cupboard.

He didn't brush his teeth for 2 years (he had no toothbrush) and had a deep fat fryer in which he cooked almost everything. And didn't change the oil in 2 years.

Came in from the oub one night, absolutely hammered and ralphed on the floor. Next morning he hoovered it up. My mate only found out a few days later when he went to use the hoover and this godawful stench came from it.

I lived in a houseshare with a good mate of mine and a girl that we knew from a while ago.

At first it was really good, we all did our stuff and cleaned up after ourselves, then the girl went a bit... errr... psycho.

First it would be little things, she would only hoover her own room and make a big fuss about how she was only hoovering her own room as she did not use the rest of the house (but did...)

Then she refused to empty the dishwasher, as she "did not ever use it" (she did)

Then she started to go into the kitchen adn start banging stuff around, and synchronised the times I or my housemate would nip home for lunch from work so we could not get in there.

Then she started parking diagonally across the driveway (big enough for 3 cars), so only hers would fit.

Then she blocked the garage entrance so I had to ask her to move it, every day, to get the motorcycle out.

Luckily I moved out after that, apparently she has got worse and started hoarding cutlery in her room so other people cannot use it, and she also used to fill upt he freezer with food then claim it was not hers.

Mentally unstable to the extreme.

Thank god those days are over...
