AFAIK a Ferret is white (albino with red eyes) and a Polecat is the dark coloured one, otherwise the same. They are killers and will definitely not get on with any other small animals as they view them as food, I would say they would be likely to 'have a go' at a dog possibly making the dog retaliate.

But they will get rid of vermin.

Ex of mine had 6 and they stank. Vicious little gits as well, only one of them was tame enough to handle without getting bitten. I'd put that down to bad training though.

It was very funny to watch when they were all running loose but I don't think I'd have one.

My BiL has about 6 of them.

They stink. REALLY stink. And I have no sense of smell, but I can taste their odour in the back of my throat when I walk into their house.

They need lots of entertainment, which means loosing them out regularly, chasing round after them, fishing them out from under floorboards, wardrobes, settees, bins, washing machines etc. They are into everything, scratch everything, try to bite everything. They are meat eaters, so their ste is vile - like catst, but stickier and more pungent.

Admittedly they are comical to watch, but in somebody elses house, certainly not coming anywhere near mine though.

Ferrets can make excellent pets (and catch rabbits aswell !) With regular handling they become tame and soppy as cats and they can have the scent glands removed which makes them more pleasent to live with. Some kids have a couple near me and walk them on leads. V entertaining to watch but carefull around dogs otherwise ..dog scares ferret, ferret bites dog, no more ferret. They love to climb aswell so a high avairy type pen is ideal. Shove one in your trouser pocket and makes a crackin willy warmer..

Our whippet and ferret got on well together, they usually attacked each other for half an hour and then curled up on a bean bag together and kipped for a couple of hours. They do smell a bit so have to be kept out doors but are fun pets to bring indoors to play with for a while as long as they are used to being handled.

I had 2 once. An albino & a brown one. Kept them outside way away from the house. Boy did they stink though. Had to keep them in separate cages as they fought like help if they got together. On their own friendly little things.
