Fs. Higher rate numbers piss me off at the best of times if you need to phone the bank or virgin TV. 90% of the time its for a problem they fking caused! But the job centre is aimed at people without jobs, so without much money, so why charge them for phoning! This is a fking disgrace, unemployment is going through the roof and people have less money than they have in a long time. Its only recently its been changed cos the local numbers I have tried to phone are giving me a message saying phone 0845...

Im only looking for a job to keep me going for the next 4 or 5 months as the company im with banned overtime. And im hoping to get into a career soon. So im stuck on a 10 hour a week contract, every little helps. But there will be people in a much worse state than me that could be doing without being shafted with this. I know the chances are il be stuck on the phone for ages waiting for them to find the right form or whatever else.

Why to companys insist on changing over to these?

Err..0845 is local rate.

Appreciate the sentiment that the Job Centre should probably be 0800, but it's not "higher" rate.

But I thought 0845 was excluded from the various anytime deals, also you pay to call it from your mobile, whereas a standard number would be included in free minutes.

Erm, an 0845 is only charged as a local call wherever you phone them from isn't it?

Have you tried this website http://www.saynoto0870.com/ ? type in the 0845 number and it will (on most occasions) give you the local rate phone no.
