With cold weather like this, I find it incredible that any wildlife can actually survive these temps!
When you think about it, all birds have is a few mm of feathers. Truly amazing and I have the utmost respect for them.

We are putting plenty of extra food out to try and give them a chance, loads of peanuts, sunflower seeds and proper bird seed. It's important they have food with high fat content this time of year.

I hope you are doing your bit? smile

Yes, the cats seem to enjoy their prey with more meat on it.

Some very plump looking woodies around the house at the moment. I feel a good pie is in order soon.

Yip, keep mine well fed. Not sure about the birdseed, don't think she would like that. I do keep up the high fat content though with an occasional trip to Macdonalds biggrin

Would warn against feeding more than your own, last time I tried I ended up with this lot, took me ages to get rid of them

Since I don't have a bird table, I've cleared a patch in the snow and scattered a mix of raisins, nuts and seeds. Goose fat on brown toast also seems to be going down well.

I remember about 35 years ago, when you put a feeder out with peanuts only finches and tits fed from them.
Now every bird has learned to feed from them - even jackdaws hang from the smallest feeder .

Feeding thousand of the little blighters here - or at least trying to. There's a female blackbird who's bullying all the others away from the food though!

My wife puts out 6 fat balls every 2 days & we have 3 hanging bird feeders dotted around the garden, filled with nuts.

She gets a little carried away though & this morning made Ready Brek for our chickens & an extra portion for the wild birds "in case they wanted to have a glow for the day" I was told

Ive been putting peanuts out and some fat pellets.

Its mental as soon as I walk back in gardens full of starlings 2 hours later all 4 feeders are empty nothing else gets a look in.

Yep, constantly keeping the little birds topped up with food. They're really going through the seeds at the moment.

I'm working from home as the snow has blocked us in and this robin kept appearing outside the window. Eventually, I grabbed a lid and filled it up with seeds. No sooner had I placed it on the window sill, he was there tucking in!
