Well some of the traits of this cold system would create a long warm summer. The static high pressure, blocking the Gulf Stream would cause this. However, the winds from the north would not help! (winds from Scandinavia/Russia would likely be warm in summertime though)

Without doubt - if we get a sudden thaw (ie the Gulf Stream returns), then we are gonna be in deep doodoo!

don't forget the "record" floods that will arrive in a few weeks when there will be an "unprecendented early spring". Gives Sky/CNN/BBC more nonsense to over dramatise.

They've gone further than that around our way. I want to use the hose but the bds have frozen it solid.

A new job at this rate! Target was 160 last week, achieved 45 due to the weather and travel problems.

And then

Taggart: I got it! I know how we can run everyone out of Rock Ridge.
Hedley Lamarr: How?
Taggart: We'll kill the first born male child in every household.
Hedley Lamarr: [after some consideration] Too Jewish.

Less please. We havn't had a decent summer for too long. 3 months of virtual solid sun and warmth please.

Sitting outside on the decking basking in the sun while I have breakfast or relax of an evening is a far cry away from being huddled in the lounge eating porridge of a morning and speed smoking a fag because it is that cold outside!!

Long hot summers are a thing of the past.

Be prepared for some typical British summers as from now, with continuing low solar activity.

It's time to put away the Barbecue, and keep those winter woolies close at hand!

if the atlantic conveyor switches off (which it could) then we will get no gulf stream and winter could last a long time ..

If/when that happens you can look to Moscow for a fair idea of what our weather will be like. Or Calgary in Canada where they held the Winter Olympics some time back. We are on a similar Latitude to them.
