Right, in the unlikely event that anyone is still up and reading this - I went to bed at 11pm and couldn't sleep. Got up about 3am and have been dicking around on the internet since.

I need to be in work by 9.30am latest, but can reasonably be in from 8am and it's an hour commute. Girlfriend's alarm goes off at 7am (she would be in the same bed as me). I didn't sleep particularly well last night, not sure of course, but definitely not clubbing or drinking related.

So, do I go to bed now for max of 3 hours sleep interrupted sleep or stay up and go in early. I'm not great on less than 7 hours sleep, but with no sleep I'm pretty sure I'll die by 3pm. Coming home early is possibly an option though, if I get in early (normally finish around 5.30pm).

Anyone else in the same position - or even online?

On night shift at short notice, have been up since 10am, and tomorrow i have to do lots of running around so reckon i'll get to bed around 11ish.

I vote stay up, then you'll sleep tomorrow.

I'm thinking the same, but the last 10 minutes have seemed like an eternity. Realisitcally I have an hour and a half to stay awake and not make any noise before I can leave for work. Not really sure what I'm going to do for that time - any ideas?

Nope, sadly can't help there. I don't think that i should be advising people on how to manage their boredom when i'm work on PH.

Cool, no worries.

I'm going to have a (quiet) bath, hope I don't fall asleep, then get ready to go to work.

I've got a feeling today is going to be a very long day. frown

Yep, that sounds reasonable.

I work nights sun-thurs. I normally stay up all day friday, and crash out some time at night, so i can be up all day sat and sun, then obviously im up all night sunday into monday, so i can sleep during the day on monday.

Quite easily to manipulate your body clock if it starts slipping out of time.

I'm in the same postion as you oddly enough, I also didn't sleep well last night GF is in bed and gets up at 7 and I have to be at work for about 9.30. I'm still deciding what to do. The problem is, when you eventually get to sleep, you'll be in the deepest sleep possible when the alarm goes off.

I spent a couple of years doing 12 day or night shifts, it is amazing how long you can go without sleep when you need to.

Yay me to, alarm goes off in two hours. Not sure what to do.

ETA Thought I would also say this happened to me last Monday, didn't sleep a wink and by 3pm I didn't die but I think I was starting to be a little delusional and my head felt like it was made of lead.

Just remembered that I went to the PH meet at MB World after a nightshift, that was an easy day to stay awake. It's amazing what all those cars strictly obeying the 20mph speed limit will do to head cobwebs. biggrin

I went to the motorsport thing at MB world in november, Drove down saturday after a night shift, booked in the hotel, went to a pub owned by a ph'er, back to the hotel, talk on the big white phone for a couple of hours, then up at 6 to drive half way round the M25.. hehe

Amazing what the sound of DTM and F1 does too.. biggrin

i find even a few hours sleep is better than none. You'll be exhausted in the morning but it's amazing the second wind you always seem to get in the afternoon

Well, I faffed around at home for a couple of hours and got in around 8.30am in the end. I feel drunk with a heavy head, so I can't wait until the post lunch sugar crash. sleep

I would have stayed in bed. You feel like your not sleeping but you are probably getting lots of micro-sleeps and not realising it.

Even a full hour of sleep would have kept you going well in to the day.

You are still at home! You have woken momentarily to type this whilst (semi) asleep at the keyboard.

I wish, I'm just tucking into a salad washed down with my second can of coke for the day (caffeine general keeps me awake, which is why I avoid it in the evenings).

Feeling generally ok, but a bit "washed-out" and have the attention span of an 88 year old goldfish.

As for the micro-sleeps - I spent from 5am to 6.30am in the bath, didn't close my eyes once, but clearly wasn't all there (who can spend an hour and a half in a bath in their right mind?). I guess I was pretty much day-dreaming the entire time, although I did work out the reasoning why 4 very different analytical models produced perfectly identical results whilst in there - a query that had 5 of us stumped on Friday.

Have to be at work on a Monday at 6am, rarely in bed before 1 or 2, Monday is always a dozy day for me.

I couldn't sleep last night and often have sleep problems. Some days I've done two days in a row. Obviously you're not top of your game but you get used to it eventually.

I went to BTAP last november after doing a late shift at work and not getting any sleep during the night( giddy as a kid at christmas) ,then drove the 350 miles to the hotel. Once at the hotel hit the bar after dumping the bags in the room and proceeded to drink for the next 3 hours, got changed into my finest kilt and hit the bar again until 3am.

I worked out I was up for 36 hours straight.

The day after BTAP I only got about 100 miles up the road before I had to stop for a sleep for a couple of hours or I would of crashed.
