Just how thick can you be!!
Discussion
At my local Supermarket today and after paying checked my receipt (they ALWAYS overcharge for something) found that my big choocy bar that should have been 98p was charged at £1.79. Point of principle applies and I went to service desk to get refund of difference. After checking the woman agrees I've been overcharged and offers refund.
She then stops, picks up a phone and ASKED someone on the other end what the difference was between £1.78 and 98p as she didn't have her calculater.
Unbelievable. My six year old could have worked that out!

Unbelievable. My six year old could have worked that out! Some people are just terrible performing sums in their head.
I am one of them. I use a calculator when I am doing quotes for customers to make sure it is spot on.
It is a bit disorganised not to have a calculator to hand, but I would not call them thick.
I assume you must be excellent at everything? Everyone has a weakness.
It is a supermarket worker you were dealing with, have certain expectations based on that.

Are you seriously suggesting it's normal that someone can't work out a simple sum!I am one of them. I use a calculator when I am doing quotes for customers to make sure it is spot on.

That would really tax my girlfiend, she can't do basic maths for toffee. She can transpose bars of music between keys and a whole world of wierd stuff to create harmonies and play a piece of extremely tricky piano music she's heard once before by ear. She can't understand how I can work out complex maths in my head while I haven't the fogiest how she can't work out what she's doing musically

Bet there is a whole host of things you can't do, that other people consider it to be normal to be able to do.

Yes. Some people can't do that very well. I can do it, I am not particularly quick though so prefer to use a calculator. I would use an abacus, but they are not that portable.

That begs the question that if someone is employed as a cashier, shouldn't it be a basic requirement that they are capable of carrying out simple sums?Bet there is a whole host of things you can't do, that other people consider it to be normal to be able to do.
I probably couldn't build a staircase in a day. A joiner friend of mine could, but he's to be expected to as it's part of his job.
I would expect a cashier, who handles money, to be able to add up (or subtract, for that matter).
