My parents live in spain.
They're in their mid 60s.
They won't use the spanish health system so they sort of store their doctor visits up.
My mother arrived for Christmas on the 3rd of December. My dad came two weeks after due to commitments over there.

They're still fking here. Not only are they still fking here, my mother has made an appointment to see a doc on the 25th of fking january.
They tell me last week their passports have expired so they applied for new ones. Last fking week.
They've been here since mid fking december ffs.

Not only that, but because of the snow, they arn't going out. At all. They're here from first thing in the morning til last thing at night.
And although I've actually asked them to fk off to bed at a reasonable time so that me and my wife can at least have half an hour on our own, it lasted two fking nights.

My father is doing crosswords at 2am ffs.

Would it be unreasonable to tell them to fk off to a travelodge for a week?

No, but not in the manner of your post would be my humble suggestion.

Well lets see, they managed to put up with you for at least 16 years, they wiped your arse, wiped your tears, paid for all your nights out, steered you on your correct course in life, had no privacy themselves no doubt and have now had the good grace to go to Spain in there retirement and will no doubt leave you a nice little inheritance when they eventually pass on (may that be many many years away though).

The least you can do is give them a couple of bloody months of your life given that they spend most of theirs away from you in Spain.

So yes, you are being a st.

Its not that theyre here (and to put this in perspective they're here at least 4 months a year).

It's the fact that this time, there here...all the time. They're not going out at all. And this was before the snow arrived.

And I dont think wanting half an hour without them a day is unreasonable tbh.

Why don't you go out to dinner with the wife?

Or if it's that bad book a night away in a hotel (pop to the coast).

I bet this would send them the message that you need some time away from them, without anyone getting upset.

Because i've been unemployed for 5 months and cant start my new job until my CRB check comes back. So havent even got any spare cash to go for a hoon in the car for half an hour.

Why not take the opportunity to go and stay in their place with the wife for a week or two.

There will come a day (like somebody else said hopefully far away) when you want them there, and they wont be able to. Just take notes and learn as you one day can have alot of fun annoying your own kids.

This! Obvious issues with taking 2 weeks off just after Christmas though!

Fair enough - makes things much more difficult for you, people don't realise how many things drop off the menu when you don't have a pot of cash to throw at them.

Agreed.

And Cazzer, when that day arrives, take a quick look at your opening post in this thread and ask yourself again if you think you were being 'unreasonable'.
