About 2 hours ago I spread a lot of salt on my icy/snowy drive. Just come out and it's no different! Has modern snow built up an immunity to salt?

...with some Tequila, and a dash of lime.

The local winos will have licked your Margarita-flavoured drive clean of snow and ice before morning.

I've put salt on snow-covered drives twice in two days. First time I put it on the snow and it didn't work. Second time I brushed the snow off the drive and salted the ice underneath. Worked a treat.

really only works on ice directly, when the salt hits if it is going to do anything you should hear a hissing/crackling sound.

Yes, it's evolving, it's turning into something new.

If the ice is black and lumpy, in all probability what you've actually got there are slugs, rather than ice.

That being said, where do slugs go at this time of year?

LOL - some highways chap on the news recently was saying that the salt has to be mixed with sand or grit to be properly effective.

Of course, this info would be more use if I could remember the reason why!

Thanks, I've done that now!

I thought the sand or grit was there just to provide something a bit grippy to walk / drive on?
