Neighbour problem - again!
Discussion
I've had a long running battle with my neighbours who complain about everything you can possible imagine. I live in rural Wiltshire and their house borders 4 others. Over the past 7 years they've fallen out with every one of their neighbours in a fairly epic way! Complaints include mub on the road from the farm across the way, noisy windchimes, noisy kids, noisy pigs/cockerels, overgrown hedges, cats that go into their garden, trees on neighbouring land, etc.
Anyway, something more sinister has now cropped up. Last year both our cats died suddenly. One dropped dead by the road and the other walked in and died. Both appear to have been poisoned. At around the same time, neighbours had 1 dog die from poisoning and numerous dead animals appear in their gardens for no apparent reason... birds, rats, etc. One of our horses was very ill as was one of our pigs. This then died down but has now flared up again.
This week, both our dogs have been very ill and have started to head straight for a hedge that borders our properties when we let them out. We've found a large dog chew in the middle of one of our fields, a lump of cheese in the pigs water supply and a dead crow in the horses water supply.
I'm going to get the lump of cheese checked for poison, but I have no real evidence and plenty of suspicion that they're throwing/putting poison onto our property to try and harm or kill our animals. Amongst their many complaints, they've moaned about our pigs making too much noise, our cats going into their garden (despite the fact that their cat comes into our house and eats our cats food!) and our dogs barking.
I can't prove anything so i suspect the police will tell me to sod off.
What do you think I should do? I'm getting very worried now as, aside from the sadness of losing animals, my 6 year old daughter plays in the garden and fields and I don't want her handling poisoned food!

Keep everything and go to the police - they won't tell you to sod off. Mention to your other neighbour's you are doing this, maybe get more evidence from them ? keep a diary of what has happened and anything else that might happen from now on. You have to go to the Police with this one.

What the hell is the matter with these people? Can you get some kind of infra red camera watching the garden area where your properties connect? If not, go to the police immediately and advise them of your suspicions. Do other neighbours feel the same?
If you can muster some evidence, then ensure that these idiots are fined / locked up / forced to leave the area etc!
To be frank, I'd be visiting them in person to inform them that I think they killed my cats and that if my dog dies I'd be coming round and crippling them.
But them I'm not so much of a people person.
I know this sounds strange, but did you get a vet to check the cat for poison? I suppose you can get a toxicology report done on the crow etc? (Not sure how much cash you are willing to throw at this) and if it matches... Perhaps you and your neighbours could club together and check for poisons. Then I'd be informing the police of the situation and demanding that they do something about it.

It's always tempting isn't it, to sneak over the fence at 2am, find their cat/dog/budgies, skin and fillet them, then clean their windows with the dripping carcass before hanging it from the handles on their patio door with a note saying "you f
k up again, and your ass is grass - and I'm the lawnmower..."
However, common sense should prevail, and CCTV if your friend

Can you get the samples tested so you know for sure? If they go out have they outbuildings or a garage you could search for any poisons?
If thay have a cat though, how would they prevent it from going out and eating any poisoned food?
By training it to eat solely from the OP's cat's bowl.If thay have a cat though, how would they prevent it from going out and eating any poisoned food?
Gallon of petrol through the letterbox at 3am, followed by a lit match.
Even if you find poison in the food, there's nothing linking it to them unless you catch them red handed. Go to the police with your suspicions and see what they advise. CCTV would probably be a good start.
Good luck, they sound like truly evil people if what you suspect turns out to be true.

Sounds to me like most of what you've said is a criminal offence. The police/RSPCA should be interested.
Call the filth for advice. Perhaps first collect evidence without contaminating it and speak to your neighbours so they don't right you off as a lunatic. The technology certainly can test for poisoning.

They could of course come back with "I was poisoning the rats, your animal comes into my garden and eats it, not my fault"
What by finding dead animals in other locations? I wouldn't expect his pigs or horses to wonder into there neighbours back garden to be honest.

f
k calling the police over this.
You mention you have pigs.
Brick Top: You're always gonna have problems lifting a body in one piece. Apparently the best thing to do is cut up a corpse into six pieces and pile it all together.
Sol: Would someone mind telling me, who are you?
Brick Top: And when you got your six pieces, you gotta get rid of them, because it's no good leaving it in the deep freeze for your mum to discover, now is it? Then I hear the best thing to do is feed them to pigs. You got to starve the pigs for a few days, then the sight of a chopped-up body will look like curry to a pisshead. You gotta shave the heads of your victims, and pull the teeth out for the sake of the piggies' digestion. You could do this afterwards, of course, but you don't want to go sievin' through pig s
t, now do you? They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm. They will go through a body that weighs 200 pounds in about eight minutes. That means that a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

Scum like that deserve no less.

I seriously think that the OP needs to go round to his neighbours & tell them what they have found & that they seem to think that somebody local is poisoning the animals & also mention the fact that when you find out who is doing it, your gonna rip there throats out & shi* down there necks! If it suddenly stops you no who was doing it.
Thanks for the quick response all. A few things I forgot to mention:
They both work for the police. One's retired and the other still there in an admin role. In one particular argument over the fence with my wife, she felt so intimidated she said she was going to call the police. His reply.... "I am the police" with a big nasty smile! Very unpleasant people who like to bully others.
They have a cat, but it's a wild one that they started feeding years ago, so it just hangs around their place. Not sure why it wouldn't eat the poison, but come to think of it, I haven't seen it for a few months
Last year we spent a LOT of money on CCTV around the house after my wife started to get some very unpleasant text messages. The police were involved and the neighbours were on the suspect list. They triangulated the mobile phone that was sending the messages and it was up north, so if it was the neighbours, they were getting someone else to do the dirty work. Either way, the cameras we have cover the house, surrounding access points and stables. They don't cover the field and it would be impossible to do so as our border with them runs along 3 acres and a 1 acre garden. I do have a decent set of NVG kit, so might spend a night out in the field 'observing'.
My wife's worried about involving the police as these tossers will soon find out who the complaint came from and will doubtless get even nastier. I work away from home a bit and my wife is worried about being home alone with these nutters next door.
I will speak to the other neighbours to see if they've found more dead animals recently. I'm also happy to get the food stuff that we've found analysed for poisons.... just not sure where to get this done.
Believe me, I'm tempted to go round there with a baseball bat, but I just know I'll end up behind bars while they continue to torment all around them.
