We had a customer email us in the new year regarding a "special offer" that was running this month. All well and good in itself apart from the fact that the addressee could see all of the other addressees, the sender had forgotten to BCC (blind carbon copy) them.

I sent them a little email regarding data security, but there was not much they could do, the damage had already been done.

All was forgotten about until I received another similar email this morning. It seems that one of the customers was a little disgruntled and sent a reply back to the company telling them just what they thought of their service.

Unfortunately, the disgruntled customer didn't hit the "reply" button, they hit the "reply to all" one.

Cue the nasty email being sent to ALL the potential customers. :mhihi:

Email and "reply to all" attached below.

P.S. If I've missed out blanking any names, please tell me.

The sender needs a lesson in capitalisation, punctuation, and basic email skills.

The person who replied probably knew the Reply to All was selected. I've done it myself to flame the crap out of idiots sending emails similar (and ended up with a very humerous Reply to All conversation going with a few other digruntled customers).

For what possible reason would you need a Pink Limo for extremely sensitive reasons??

I'm mystified.

On a side note, who books a pink Hummer limo 'for very sensitive reasons'?

I got a very poorly produced email claiming to be from The Halifax and requesting password confirmation. A little poking around and I found that the return info was being forwarded to a webpage hosted by the site mentioned above, limousines.co.uk. I would be careful if I were you, there's something sinister about that site.

I don't think it is limousines.co.uk - looks like the OP has obscured the first half of the domain.

So you don't stand out among the other limos in the area.

Quite right. I reported the site after advice from the PH collective but it appears they did nothing, surprise surprise

It's funny, but it's not right.

The obscured bit of the company name, in several places, is self evidently not 'www.'.

I recall, a few years back, a 'reply all' fail within a reasonably sized company (about 3,500 with email accounts)

It was during a period of industrial unrest when an employee took it upon himself to set up an anonymous webmail address and write to the MD telling him in no uncertain terms what he thought of him.

He also cc'd the message to a couple of other directors, the Head of Comms, the email address for the employee rag and...clever chap that he thought he was, to the abbreviated address for 'all users'.

Now, Exchange being the smart cookie that it is, took one look at his atempt to email 'all users', acknowledged that he didn't have permission to send on that account and only delivered it to the other (named) recipients.

Rest of the company: none the wiser.

Then the Board had a quick meeting and decided to send a magnanimous and measured response; said message duly handed to the Head of Comms to send back to him.

So she hit 'reply all'.

And she did have permission to send via the 'all users' account...

I don't really understand this thread.
Can someone clarify the big faux pas in this- is it just because it is embarrassing that he ordered a pink limo?

When emailing a large amount of customers, you don't CC them in because you're leaking their email addresses to everyone.

This has happened to me only once. I was sending my love interest, who became my gf, a flirty email suggesting swapping a slice of Domino's Pizza for a feel of her bum. The mistake came when I replied to the wrong email address, the owner of which happened to be my 40 something male colleague sat next to me. Cue uncomfortable silence and stiffled laughter, followed by a bright red face and a ribbing.
