Because people are stupid enough to not read the pricing properly and think they're getting a bargain.

It's not rocket science, it's market trading to a lowest common denominator! hehe

ASDA had an item on sale that was £40.03 reduced to £40.

Massive savings I tell thee.

Sometimes the item price will not be correct - the offer price will be right, IE 2 for £2.50, but obviously the individual price is wrong. Probably meant to be £1.99 or similar.

I have no idea how it happens, but it's not deliberate!

It may be on what asda would call a rollback and also a multibuy at the same time. Another weightwatchers product may cost £1.89 (or whatever) And thus, you would save money on the products when bought together.

I work for them, and they do quite a lot of offers for products that cover a lot of prices. Example at the mo is 2 single drinks (ie 500ml bottles of Coke) for £1.60. This offer covers products like Capri Sun for 79p up to Red Bull which is something like £1.30. If you were to buy 2 Capri Suns, you would only pay £1.58, 2 Red Bulls would be £1.60. As someone above says, they have to cover all possibilities.
