...for currently working 80-100 hour weeks. As do my friends, and most associates.

I've just had the fking 3rd degree about it all again, and how there's no point. I can see a point. I'm 20, I want a decent house, to (one day) be able to say I own a house outright (which my parents have never done... re-mortgage ftw) and when I turn 21 I want a half decent car. Oh, and enough in the bank for the rainy day.

Seriously, is it really nessesary to bk me for earning a fking living?

/rant over.

Isn't that against EU law - working time directive? What's your job?

The WTD isn't worth the paper it's written on. Everywhere I have worked I have been asked if I want to sign the opt-out

Given his username, I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say... PE Teacher.

As far as I understand it an employer can't force you to work more than X amount of hours per week. It would be more than harsh if there's a legal limit on the hours I can work.

I'm self employed + two part time retail jobs.

Sorry - I'm not a van man at all. Misleading, I know.

You only get out what you put into life. Yes, you are working long hours but for good reasons as you have your objectives.

I say fair play to you and I am sure that your family will change their opinion of you when it all comes good.

Depends if the rewards match the effort.

Work smarter not harder.

No point working yourself into the ground (literally if you have a big smash). If you are a van driver then 100Hr/week scares me - please stay out of North Yorkshire.

although your assumption has been proved partially incorrect, it tickled me.

In all seriousness, if you enjoy your job enough to be able to put in those hours for tangible reward (i.e. stuff, rather than hating your job so much no amount of toys will make up for it) then go for it. I would advise, however, against getting yourself in the financial situation where you HAVE to work those hours in order to meet your financial commitments in the future.

There's nothing wrong with working hard in your younger days. Some choose to stay in the pub/watching TV all evening. Others will work any given hours, including bank holidays and weekends. I don't see a problem, so long as it's not permanent (by that, i mean it's only for a year or so). Otherwise, it could burn you out.

Okay, it can affect your life with girlfriend/mrs a bit. So long as she understands what you're doing it for...

Yeah, thats the plan. I kinda figured that if I put the work in now while I can, then it's going to make life easier later on?
