(ETA - ooh, the swear filter has been fixed to include topic titles - the blanked-out word refers to self-pleasuring folk)

Does anyone else get this?

Occasionally I'll sit in a pub reading a book or watching the world go by, or some other "fk off and leave me alone" type activity, and, yet, I attract the most boorish, boring arse in the world who's mission seems to be making my life hell by talking loudly at me, until I relent and engage in conversation.

At which point, I'm snared, and party to the most inconsequential drivel it's ever been my misfortune to experience.

Someone, for god's sake *someone*, reassure me that I don't have a magnet on my head and that I'm not the only one this happens to.

(don't bother to rate this on the usual PH scale, this isn't a rant as such, hence the lack of swearfilter usage, it's more a cry for help wink)

A poor 1/10 and the best responce I have found if the topic is in any way football related just respond with " Yes I support Ross County" no one from the central belt knows who is in the team and if its an old firm supporter you are talking to the will have lost interest before nw. hehe

Touché.

Care to start a more entertaining one?

I put it down my throat. It belonged to my Dad as he is part of wine club and is not a big fan of red wine so I take a notion for it every now and then

Tonight I have taken part in a

2007 - Claret (Bordeaux)
2008 - Rioja -Spanish
and a
2007 - Vin de Pays- Southern France

Maybe you set off gaydars? Or bordars?

Or perhaps you just need to learn to be rude? It's quite a skill, one I haven't mastered entirely, but if you give a curt reply without looking up then most people will go away, in my experience.

Give us a clue on what the 6 letter word preceding magnet is meant to be ..... I thought at first this was a thread about cars that attract the opposite sex, however that would be 5 letters.

Maybe you could try different approach - put on a very camp voice and say something along the lines of...

Well, I thought you were never going to come over. What has a girl got to do? I've been giving you the look for ages. Can I come back to yours - my boyfriend gets so jealous.

You should be alone again very quickly.

P.S. This advice is provided without any guarantees. If you are unfortunate enough to try this on a real arsebandit, you're on your own.

Put your hand a bit deeper in your pocket and don't go to Wetherspoon pubs.

I usually find "I'm not interested" helps.

That's probably the root of it, tbh, just too damn polite.

And it's Belhaven pubs usually, not Weatherspoons, whoever said that. Pffft, give me some credit (albeit not much, evidently) biggrin

We have one of these boring down at my local. He will corner you in a (one-sided) conversation which should last 2 minutes, and keep you trapped for half an hour!
We've all been caught but now we position ourselves away from eye-contact until he traps a newbie... Then we sit back and watch the poor victim squirm! hehe
