Ive been away from home all weekend, came home turned on my phone to get quite a few texts and messages from mates. Apparently over the weekend my facebook account has been used to send messages to my contacts telling them I had been robbed at gunpoint in London and was penniless and needed money sending asap.

I don't think anyone has sent money but the fact that my mobile was turned off (through choice) made them think it had been stolen. Anyone that actually knew me would know that the last place I would go seeking help is Farcebook (PH would be better thumbup ) but God knows how many times this scam has worked.

If anyone is concerned send cash asap to me@youstupidgit.com

No it's not new.

Some applications are fake apparently and take your username and password details somehow at some point in using them.

The information is then used ... well in ways like you experienced.

I once had a friend message me out of the blue about 8 months ago saying that he needed money to help stop his landlord from kicking him out of his rented house. I knew that it was a scam as he owns his own house, that he paid off a few years back hehe

Just change your password and be careful of what apps you use. I don't use any myself as I can't be arsed with them.
