At work all the charity boxes for local causes that make a difference to the local community have instead been replaced with Haiti this and Haiti that. Of all the billions that are being donated, blindly and for fashion guilt more than anything, what will make it to the people on the street?

This friday is a dress down day with a compulsory donation, bks, I'm going in my dinner jacket and bow tie and sod the donation.

Anyone else just totally fed up with the blind monkey see monkey do donations going on?

I wouldnt agree with it being compulsory, but dont have a problem with the concept of helping those less fortunate than ourselves.

Its part of what makes us a civilised society.

I shall not be buying the Charidee single.
I can't see "Feed the World" has helped in the long term?

I expect there's been enough money donated now to build a brand new Haiti a few times over, I bet they don't see half of it.
The other problem with this sort of thing is that the other charities lose out.

You have my support on this, i'm utterly amazed at the worlds reaction to this, especially the so called 'celebrity aid' culture we seem to have these days.
Haiti has one of the most corrupt governments on the planet (Reuters Jan 26th) and has been in a state of de facto civil war for years, civil unrest and public beatings gang violence has been common in this country for decades.
Now all of a sudden we all have to pour millions into this country because of a natural disaster, a lot of people would think the country was a disaster area already before any 'quake, i will not be giving them a penny, this Haitian government overseeing the distribution of aid are just as bad as the Mugabe/Amin/Ceausescu crowd.
Pretty bad of the mainstream media (BBC) to conveniently forget the recent terrible history of this island.

exactly, the others lose out. Weekly work turfs out a good few £100s from the collection boxes for the local hospice and cancer charities (local ones) and they are now missing out as a result.

What has the corrupt government that was there got to do with a natural disaster killing 200,000 people? And those people needing compassion and help from those that are able to offer it?

and of the 32bn raised, just tell me how that money will be spent and how much will be creamed off before it even gets to the country?

Lets just blindly plough money in, should be good for polish builders though

Of course some of it will.

But the scale of the problem is such that if you really deny them help then you are inhuman.

deny them help? Am just saying put brakes on the fking mindless penny grabbing. Time and again we go and plough a st load of money which is inneffectively spent.
