To cut my hair I normally just clipper it, however the longest clipper guard I had was a 1 inch, so I purchased a 1 3/4 inch one as i hate my hair at 1 inch.

Now it came through the post today and i looked at it and it said 1 3/4 inch on the side (see photo) however when I measure from the base of the guard to the blade of the clipper it only measures one inch (see photo) have they marked it wrong or am I being dumb?????

No, no, just because the rule reads 1" doesn't mean it is not actually 1 3/4"

hehe

Send it back, ask them what the hell they are playing at, as they appear to be retarded.

Have you measured your 1 inch one for a comparison? Bet that makes an interesting photo too.

Is it just me, or should you be turning the ruler 45 degrees clockwise and re-measuring?

Indeed not.

Perhaps it is one of those enigmas that mankind will always struggle with. A mystery, tantalisingly close, but never explained.

It looks like the height of the whole item is about the 1 3/4" you wanted. Maybe thats how it's measured? If it is bigger than the one you have then surely job done?

Because that's the length of the guard - in line with the blades.

Hang on - I understand doing a buzz cut...

But using clippers, all over, at 1 and 3/4" length?

Surely that is waaay to long for clippers and you must have a really odd hairstyle!?

Are you sure the ruler is correct?? have you been burged recently? I only ask as someone I know "down the pub" was burgled recently too. Nothing was taken, but all the measurements were changed- pint glasses held 478ml, measuring jugs read in fathoms, and rulers were inaccurate by about 3/4 inch.

maybe you've been affected to?

Exactly, OP put it side-by-side with the 1" you have now, if its bigger, use it.

Looks, to me, like the 1.75" refers to the height of the opposite, not the height of the cutting point.

Maybe your new one is measured in Chinese inches, they are smaller (that isn't a poor attempt at a joke, they really are).

Otherwise I reckon they could be measured along the angle and you should compare it with your old one.

Or maybe it takes into account a degree of flex in your hair as the clippers are pulled over.
