I have an interview with Iceland next week and would be very interested to know what everyone thinks about them as a retailer - IE Store Standards, Staff quality, delivery service etc.

Any contributions will be gratefully digested!

Thanks in advance

(I think we can probably take the Kerry Katona comments as read hehe)

Three occasions I've been in there (two separate stores)

1. I got stopped by a group of 'youths who asked if I was the store detective... answering 'no' they carried on loading up a pram with goods.

2. Was treated to a full on fist fight between family members.

3. Do any other ph'ers and family tuck into fish & chips as they shout their way around the aisles?

Much the same as Tesco or Asda in that case. Great!

I am going to assume that the majority of customers shop there because the prices are competitive and they are too lazy to cook properly? wink

Worked there for a year while I was a student.

My store was located in a ste area so the customers and staff were riff-raff (me not included of course).

Besides that, pay isn't brilliant but then again why would it be.

Each store atmosphere will depend on who the manager is.

If there is anything specific you want to know, I'll try and be of help.

Iceland bought a load of cheap retail sites in the recession of the early 90s, and were able to rapidly expand as a result. These sites were cheap for a reason, however where there's muck there's brass.

A pikey customer base wouldn't deter me from working for a company, so long as that were not in a customer-facing role.

Thanks.

They are a Sunday Times "Top 20 best Places to Work For" company, in at no 14.

Seems like they want to foster a good working atmosphere, though obviously this will be dependent on each store manager whistle

The recruiter (!) said that they are very standards driven, with a relatively simple KPI structure, and that apparently all the Store Managers went to Florida last year!
