Drove 3 hours to my parents last night. Greeted their dog - 9-year old border collie on the drive. I've known her since a pup. Thought she's gone back inside, so sorted out our bags. Heard a loud crunch as a car went past. I retrieved poor little soul from the road. Died on the way to the vets. I'm beside myself.

Hardest thing I've ever done to dig a hole in the garden with me dad to rest her in.

Gutted for you (and for your mum and dad), had loads of friends had their cats run over but weve been fortunate enough (touch wood) not to suffer this

Although she wasn't killed my old girl ran out onto the road chasing something and ran into the side of car, a second sooner and she would have been killed. Don't know which of us was more shook up

Losing a pet is difficult enough let alone in these circumstances.
I really hope the poor little thing didn't suffer to much. frown

We lost our's in 1997 but i still remember him on the 13th Dec every year.
Remember the good times with your pet.

Hey dont take offence. I love cars, I am sorry about the dog. but seriously how's the car?
I thought it was badly damaged given the cracking sound of plastic. No plastic found in the morning, so the cracking noise was clearly something else.

Hope you feel better for that info.

That is actually an offence - the driver would definitely lose his job for that if it was reported, so I hope it was...?

As for the OP - so sorry mate... Every dog owner's worst nightmare and it can happen so bloody quickly.

Sorry the hear that. I've only been a dog owner for a few weeks, but couldn't imagine losing her to those circumstances.

Sorry to hear that. My GSD has only been with us two years and is a rescue that arrived with old traffic accident injuries (we think).

WRT the bus, he may not even have known he had hit the dog. I remember years ago being in the car with my brother driving through a built up area and we heard a sort of momentary whining so we decided to stop. Got out & looked around and couldn't see anything and were about to get in and drive off when a passer by told us that a dog had run out and gone under the nearside front wheel and been thrown clear and run off into a garden. When we looked it was there and the owner had seen what happened and said nothing we could have done to avoid it even if we had seen it. We both still felt pretty awful though.
