Got an Expo at the NEC late this month. Any suggestions on hotel? Needs to be reasonably priced (under £80 a night) and don't mind driving for 30 minutes.

Any good 'uns? Stayed at a guest house last year, and they moved my colleague out into a box room (with no en-suite) because my sales director was staying ... the look on his face was priceless when he realised!

Crowne Plaza, in the grounds of the NEC, stayed there 4 times when been to concerts, quite smart and not too expensive as long as you don't eat or drink there.

Stay on the NEC grounds as traffic is awful during expos... plus means you can walk and have beers...

You won't get that for £80 though will you!? I recall paying £120 for that on a very large motoring company's account at the Autosport show a couple of years ago?

Crowne Plaza has gone anyway. I am exhibiting so will be in before the traffic (it is B2B so not expecting to be massive traffic).

At the moment, the head is saying Premier Travel Inn, come on heart, say something good!

How much extra is it worth to not have to drive to and from the NEC though? Petrol, time, hassle and Birmingham isn't that light on traffic either. I can't seem to remember paying more than £100 and the parking is free.

Look at city centre and then getting train to BHI/NEC? Miles easier....unless it's a single night stay I guess.

Plus if you are exhibiting, whats the opportunity cost of getting stuck in traffic and missing time on site (which must be costing a bit).

Better to be local, pay the extra and use the time gained to network more with fellow exhibitors...

We stay there every year for the Grand Designs LIVE exhibition when we're exhibiting...Lovely place, superb breakfasts! About 15min drive to the NEC also & plenty of decent places to eat en-route from what I remember.

Blame my MD, he stayed there once with the rest of the family that owns the company and has returned ever since hehe

Stayed at the Hilton near the NEC a couple of times, it's OK.

What ever you do avoid the Coventry Hill Hotel (and indeed, any other ones in the same chain). God awful st hole of a place.

There is a Premier Inn on the Stratford road Shirley behind 'The Plough' pub.

Nice enough and prices from £29 per night means extra beer tokens!

Two junctions from the NEC (10 mins by car max), short taxi ride to Solihull town centre or walking distance from 'The Farm' which is a very nice pub.

I stayed at the Lea Marston Hotel near Tamworth for a couple of years.

It's not The Ritz but it had a good pub-bar and served decent food. Rooms were comparitively large aswell.

It's about 10mins from the NEC and was good value.

Don't go near the City centre if you're driving in everyday - It's a fricking nightmare.

If you're paying £80 a night you won't get anywhere 'on-site' at the NEC so forget the hotels that are there.

Just remembered they have just opened a new 'Village' hotel 2 minutes up the road from that Premier Inn on Dog Kennel Lane, never stayed there but have been a few times for beers and food, very new and funky, great gym too......

Don't know how much it is to stay, should be in budget though!

I live 'just' around the corner and work just passed the NEC so do the journey by car everyday, the only time it took longer than 20 mins was in the snow!

If people are queuing on the inside lane to get off at the NEC stay in lane 3 and you'll breeze past, after the half mile sign move to lane 2 and then at the 100 yrd sign lane 1 and off, using the second exit lane which every fooker can see but no one uses???
