I wish to purchase a fairly large (11 inch) Bowie knife which has gone out of production and has proven (so far) to be impossible to get hold of. A website in the US has a limited number available. Does anyone know whether there are any prohibitions in force to prevent my receiving one through the post, or whether there are any hoops I'll have to jump through to get it delivered?

Thanks.

I don't have any malicious intent for it - if I did, I wouldn't be paying in excess of £150 for one - so I don't mind ordering it myself. I simply don't know whether this will trigger any customs issues (payments, refusals to accept into the country, or a knock on my door).

This guy claims to work for customs:

I'd have thought provided it's not illegal to own the particular type of knife in the UK it shouldn't be impossible to import one? It might raise eyebrows and you may have to answer a few questions about it but it should work out eventually if you're a collector

Thanks. I've read that before. Seems quite sensible and aimed at "concealed" blades of any type. An 11 inch Bowie is difficult to conceal so perhaps I'll be OK.

Cheers. smile
