I've been invited to a party that - like any sensible grown up occasion - requires me to dress up as something out of The Wizard of Oz. Now I can remember roughly who the various characters are, but does anyone have any specific ideas for making a costume?

The best idea so far is to make some cardboard wings, attach them to an old waistcoat and make up a red hat to go as a flying monkey. Any advances on that? smile

You could always go "new age" and take costume ideas from the syfy channel's "Tin Man"

Let us know if anybody turns up dressed as the (new and improved) wicked witch...

Your options are 3 (unless you want to dress up as a bird)

Tin man - few cardboard boxes from asda, can of silver spray paint and a funnel. Job done.

About 5'11. I'd make a taller-than-average flying monkey I suspect.

I think, however, that might be the answer. Most of them seem to wear a fez-type thing and my girlfriend just happens to store her makeup in a red pot roughly the same diameter as the top of my head. So that's the head gear sorted. We found a face mask which looks vaguely monkey-ish, which is good. All that's left now is to stick some stripey red wrapping paper onto an old waistcoat, make a tail of some description and, of course, some big cardboard wings...
