I currently have a 2 year old Field Spaniel (Pedigree, not the misnamed Working Cocker / Springer) and am in the market to find him a suitable friend. We were offered a new Field Spaniel puppy last week by good friend of ours (and Cruffts finalist owner/breeder) but having 2 dogs of different ages and requirements just isnt practical at the moment. What i am looking for is either:

Another Field Spaniel or large breed Cocker / Sproker, of similar age to my current.

The new dog needs to be quite placid and of a cuddly, kind nature. Field Spaniels, although hard working (mine loves to sleep all day) are very sensitive to noise, aggression and hard physical contact, so that kinda narrows down the list of potential room mates. We have looked at other dogs, but most are either too confident and take advantage of the little fella, or are completely nuts and confuse the hell out of him.

If you know of a dog that might fit this description then please let me know. I have searched the internet for a suitable companion but the thing with this type of dog is that they rarely come up for adoption due to them being so damn good as pets. I will travel to collect / meet the dog so now worries there.

Cheers,

Eddie

Just a thought - have you tried the classifieds and dog forums on the Horse & Hounds site?

Have you tried Spaniel rescues? They always have dogs who are a bit older needing new homes.

Katie Price wouldnt be given a place in my home, even if she was paying for the privilege.

I'll give Spaniel Rescue a try, thanks for the help.

Try the rescue section of www.itsapringthing.co.uk loads of springer/sprocker owners and a lot of rescue bods. There are apparently loads of spaniels in rescue at the moment!

There you go, Field Spaniel needing a home http://springthing.3.forumer.com/index.php?showtop...

(edit - actually I now realise it doesn't say Field Spaniel...perhaps I'm seeing things!) Anyway, the logic is the same. Chat to some of the rescue peeps.
