It was stolen by posh people that put it infront of the word egg, as in:

'One likes one's (h)eggs runny in the middle'.

I saw the post and assumed this would be the subject. Then I decided as it wasn't I was going to have a rant. You beat me to it.

I think we just have to accept that over time, a wave of dumbos has changed the pronunciation to "haitch".

Language is a dynamic medium, after all.

Next, they will start pronouncing "S" as "sess".

And "F" as "feff".

In fact you've got me started now. My registration starts with the letter H, I've had service receptionists correct my pronunciation to haitch.

Has it really or are you just bored and looking for something to say? I can't remember the last time (or indeed the first time) someone dropped the "H" from "with".

WIT? Not sure I've heard that. I've heard something like WID or WIV.

On being incorrectly corrected, I once had a waiter try to tell me that Moet was pronounced 'Mowayyy'.

I remember a Sandhurst RSM who used the letter H at random.

He would have said "Erbal Hessences".

Except that I can't imagine that word combination ever coming out of his mouth!

Corrected from what? It's not pronounced "Moat", is it?
