Stepson - 18yo - nearly 19 ... girlfriend of two months who is 17. He works three days a week, starting at about 3.30 - she works one or two nights a week ...

She stays over here about 3, sometimes 4, nights a week in his room. Not my idea of course and I'm not sure I would have allowed it in any case from the off but his mother agreed ONCE and now of course, it happens all the time (or so it seems)

When they are here, they just *exist* in his room, I don't get to see him - except when he comes down to cook bacon (at about midday), raid the fridge and make tea - I never see her at all ... sometimes when she leaves.

I have seen her downstiars once though, traipsing about our kitchen in her pyjamas at 1.30 in the afternoon ... irked

Now. Should I be happy he's not out til all hours, drunk somewhere and shooting up or should I be expect more somehow - ie he actually spends time actively pursuing for a job where he works normal hours instead of the *go to bed at 2am - get up at midday* routine?

I just think him (and her) treat the place like a hotel - meals in their rooms, never coming out etc. He does fka ll round the house and if I so much as request that maybe he could bring the plates down and wash them up, it's as though I have asked him to run a marathon.

Or am I just a grumpy bast@rd? He rarely stays at her house I might add. In fact he suggested due to some trouble with her mum, she move in here - ffs!!

To cap it all off though - last night - 1am - I am working downstairs and I hear them friggin' at it - banging headboard, groans, grunts, the lot ... I fell like I can't move about in me own house sometimes.

Does he pay rent, contribute to bills and so on? If he's earning and not contributing then start charging him, don't forget the extra for doing his chores as well.

Sometimes I bookmark a topic based purely on the original post. Sometimes you can just tell where a thread will go.

This is one of those occasions.

See you in 30.

Just for the sake of being all growed up and sensible, my parents wouldn't have put up with that, neither would I.

this the key. Unless the two of agree and act as one, you've got no chance.

Shag his girlfriend then move out.

I wouldn't tolerate it. No Sir. Confront, set the new rules and possibly start a bit scrap or let them arse around your house for months to come.

Or start acting a bit pervy with the bird and she'll soon stop staying over.

Constantly watch strange porn on TV at all hours. Best done if they have to go past the TV on the way upstairs.

They're young and just don't understand what they're doing.

I don't know what to do next.

My son (and various GFs) used to behave very similarly. He's now 7 years older than yours, is smart, polite, well-mannered, has a degree and a good job with prospects. There is hope!

What, we have managed to get this far into a thread and no mention of towers to do with oxo, or back doors being kicked in, PH is going to the dogs

Oh, and yes, it would piss me off, as it did with my dad when i did it to him. He read me the riot act, and made it perfectly clear what he would do if i didnt sort myself out

I think they're all like this at this age. Mine certainly were. Son still is. Daughter is now a delight at 23 having been the highest maintenance, pain in the arse, bh the world has ever seen for many years. Deep breaths and tongue biting work well.

to be honest, it sounds like a lot of teenagers... they do that, i.e. nothing (except whoopy time). I think you should lay down some rules but don't push it too far.

They also have a bad habit of showing you it's better the devil you know. (i'm not a parent, have just observed as an adult how my folks have delt with me and my brother, they moan at him for doing nothing but never moaned at me and i was always out getting in trouble).

Forget for a moment that he is your stepson and that his mum is seemingly happy with this situation. What would you do if he were your son?
